Joy Of Cooking 1997 edition
by
Irma Rombauer

I'll just say it: I am not a good cook. But I want to try! And this book has so many simple recipes and detailed explanations on cooking techniques that I am inspired and motivated to pick maybe one recipe at a time and try it. I am now convinced that I will slowly but surely be able to teach myself how to cook, and actually find Joy in the process.

The rating of "5" is inaccurate because it means "very good". If there was a number, like, I don't know, 40, that means "stunning", then I would choose that one.

Awesome. The author not only has a sense of humor, but also knows the city very well. I read this book like a novel!

Good Eats The Early Years
by
Alton Brown

Alton Brown is a genius. To me, when it comes to cooking, his word is gospel. He has so many pieces of advice. "There's only room for one uni-tasker in my kitchen. And that's the fire extinguisher."

Helen of Troy
by
Margaret George
crazyshells219

i don't even know what to say about this book! it was enthralling. i loved it from page one. you can't help but simply fall in love with helen, despite the perhaps poor decisions she makes, and be with her every step of the way on her journey for love. margaret george is amazing, and manages to capture your attention no matter where you are in the book. i became so attached to the characters and the city of troy that my heart broke when the inevitable conclusion came about. a definite must for anyone who enjoys greek mythology, historical fiction, or just a book about love.

Something Missing
by
Matthew Dicks
crazyshells219
, September 28, 2009
wow. i picked this book up on a whim as i stood in line to be checked out at the library, and happened to look to my left and see it sitting there innocently in the new book section. and then i read it in 3 days flat. matthew dicks certainly has a wild imagination, although as you read you realize hmmm....maybe this isn't such a crazy idea! and you start to wonder if maybe someone sneaks into your house every day and steals things you wouldn't notice are gone; like toilet paper, and cereal, and toothpaste, and cheese. and somehow you begin to sympathize with an OCD criminal who routinely steals from the same people week after week, even getting to know those people very well without ever meeting them. it's when he decides to actually help his "clients" that you realize that the title "something missing" not only refers to items that he steals, but also to a big void in his life.
