Therefore Repent

This is a post-"rapture" book where tons of people have floated into space while everyone that's left is figuring out the new world where magic works, dogs talk, and angels are gunning people down. Short and a fast read but the art could be a little better in some of the action pages. The conclusion is pretty great though and redeemed some of the pages that I got lost at.

Skippy Dies
by
Paul Murray

I received the 1st part of this book through Indiespensable and was hooked. The book starts with a prologue where Skippy Dies. What follows is the events leading up to the event and the aftermath of his death. The characters are boys in an Irish boarding school, one of their teachers, and Skippy's love interest. Paul Murray makes all of them unique, with compelling voices and points of view, even when those thoughts are disturbing and unpalatable. The plot is so well crafted and intricate that I feel like I need to read it again to find those subtle hints Murray gives throughout the book of the big plot reveals. I just loved it and it was my favorite book I read in 2010.
