Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Black Flame The Revolutionary Class Politics of Anarchism & Syndicalism
by
Lucien Van Der Walt
Matt Towell
, April 29, 2015
This is a great history of Anarchism and Syndicalism, it covers more than other histories on the subject I have read. It covers more than just Russian, European, and North American history and delves deeper into South American, Central American, and Asian Anarchism. If you are interested in the subject of Anarcho-Syndicalism this is a fantastic read. My only complaint is that they consistently overused the term "Broad Anarchist Tradition". I feel like it was used more as filler than to remind the reader of the subject matter. There were literally paragraphs where the term was used 3 or more times. Overall I would heartily recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Anarchist and Labor history.

American Demon A Memoir
by
Jack Grisham
Matt Towell
, September 16, 2013
In an American Demon Jack Grisham, shows and personifies the early days and insanity of the LA/OC hardcore scenes. I have read this book twice now and it is so completely accessible and engaging that I had a hard time putting it down.
