Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Prayer
by
Philip Yancey

I have read this book several times and each time, I find something new. My prayers are re-newed and inspired. Yancey takes the pressure off of trying to "pray right." There is no right or wrong way to pray. There is simply letting God be with me, wherever and however I am in the moment.

I would agree with the other reviewer-not quite as strong as the first book. Very entertaining and gripping none the less. Well worth reading, just to find out what happen's next, and get into the third book.

Assassin's Quest: Farseer 3

Totally engrossing-I couldn't put it down! Had to get the rest of the trilogy. Hobb's makes this fantasy world easily assessable; no weird names, geography or rules of alternate universes to memorize. If I want to work that hard, I'll read non-fiction! Almost all of the characters are likable and relatable. It kept me guessing what the answers to the mysteries could be!

Fencing Master

Arturo Perez Reverte

A friend recommended Reverte to me and this seemed like a a good one to start with; long enough to be interesting but not so long I'd be sorry for the time if it wasn't good. All in all, an intriguing character study of a man who is an anachronism in his own time. Throw in political unrest, a mysterious woman, a murder and you've got a decent read.

This is a very chewy little book. I read it slowly, in small bites and long pauses for digestion. Lots to ponder...
