Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Flash Of Hex OSI Book 2
by

there is something about this series that just keeps you reading. perhaps it's the fullness and depth of the characters, the humor that each finds despite the cruel and often times goriness of their reality. the plot is intricate and well thought out and a lot of the unnecessary eye-glazing forensic geek-speak of the previous novel was left out. there was just enough to make it interesting but of course detailing every single hand and finger movement of ASL didn't help a non-signer to envision it any better. a good read with even a couple of LOL moments.

Night Child OSI Book 1

i would have to say that the supernatural csi geek-speak often times had me zoning out, but i figured it was a way to establish depth to tess' reality. i wanted to read more about tess' connection with the mysterious necromancer and less about the physics of magic so since that was the case i kept reading even though there were numerous t.v. breaks. in the end the plot picked up and now i'll have to read the second book just to see what might become of lucian and tess.

It's a new world where magic lives side by side with current tech. And kate is a character that you will really love...she got depth, she's funny and she can kick ass! I've read all three kd books and i'm impatiently waiting for more.

Wraith Zoe Martinique 01
by
Phaedra Weldon
read
, January 04, 2010
Poor Zoe is a woman-child who finds herself thrown into one self-inflicted idiotic mess after another. Every rambling incident is narrated with juvenile bursts of thought and a cry for 'mommy!' You won't find a kick-ass heroine here, more like a clueless boy crazy girl who doesn't even have any skills to make the action good. Sorry Zoe, go back to mommy and learn something if you plan on having any more adventures.
