If you automatically dismiss any book with the hint of science fiction please don't dismiss this book. You will regret it. It is a wonderful read. Great characters, exciting plot, thought provoking and some beautiful writing. It jumps between before and after a world wide pandemic wipes out 99% of the population. Terrifying now of course with the current Ebola scare but there are no zombies, no conspiracies, no invasions. There are just survivors trying to adjust and survive in a new world. 'Survival is insufficient' though. There is still Shakespeare, and music, and love and beauty to either remember or find again. An exciting, challenging, beautiful and ultimately hopeful novel. Please don't miss it.
