It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Theft By Finding: Diaries 1977 - 2002
by
David Sedaris

I so enjoyed this latest offering from David Sedaris and can not wait for the next installment in the diaries. While it is often laugh at loud funny, it is also poignant. You can see how Mr. Sedaris developed his writing style over time.

Some Kind of Fairy Tale A Novel
by
Graham Joyce

I started this book this morning and didn't stop reading until I was done with it. My eyes actually hurt right now. I would describe this as a mystery wrapped in a fairy tale.

History Of Love

Nicole Krauss

We are listening to the book on CD. The readers are excellent. Having multiple readers makes it so much easier to keep track of which character is actually front and center. I read the book quite awhile ago but don't remember much other than I liked it! My husband does not normally read fiction and he is enjoying the reading especially the character of Leo.

Started Early Took My Dog Kate Atkinson
by
Kate Atkinson
Elaine T
, September 01, 2011
Kate Atkinson has written a tale that at first had me shaking my head trying to keep the characters straight. Put the book down and tried again later. It became an engaging story weaving the past and the present. A tale of lost children, stolen opportunity, and an unsolved murder.

Coyote Blue
by
Christopher Moore

I found this on my daughter's book shelf when I went to help her with her new child. I have read a lot of Mr. Moore but not this book. Another great book from Christopher Moore. His blend of fantasy and reality is engaging. One of those books you stay up late reading because you want to see where it leads.

Purge
by
Sofi Oksanen
Elaine T
, July 23, 2010
This story weaves the tale of two women Zara and Aiide. The books goes back and forth between 1950's Estonia and the present day 1992. This was a difficult read given the subject matter of life under a changing Soviet and German regime and the dire circumstances of Zara. It explores the effects of violence on the women, the effect of living under the rule of an occupier. "Purge is a fiercely compelling and damning novel about the corrosive effects of shame, and life in a time and place where to survive is to be implicated."(from the jacket cover)
