best noir ever - memorable characters, vivid sense of time and place. Detective Bernie Gunther in Berlin before, during, after WWII. An amazing page-turner rich in historical detail. Hard to believe Kerr is a contemporary Brit.

an amazing journey behind the scenes in the court of Henry VIII dense, vivid, exacting and exquisitely researched reaches far beyond most historical fiction because of deep and rich character development a great page-turner and superlative story-telling that turns old assumptions on their heads. could-not-put-it-down... not just a great mystery/thriller, but a damned good novel - complicated important characters, vivid sense of place, and interesting history and Nesbo's other books are just as good!
