Tipping The Velvet
by
Sarah Waters

of all sarah waters' books, tipping the velvet is by far her strongest & most vivid. the characters & setting are lush & scandalous, while the historical research & accuracy give it its depth & resonance. tipping the velvet gives its reader a sense of victorian times, and the trials & tribulations a young lesbian could endure as the world changes all around her. it's lovely! i loved tipping the velvet so much as a reader...that i drove cross-country on a whirlwind weekend trip to attend a film festival to see the book come to life. tipping the velvet is one of those books you never want to end.

I Like You Hospitality Under the Influence
by
Amy Sedaris
Lucie
, December 02, 2007
in these times of holiday razzle dazzle, here is a book that works perfectly for all occasions... as a quick touch-up guide on providing top-notch hospitality to the masses as well as intimate gatherings... as a hostess gift when attending holiday soirees and dinner parties... as a happy treat to yourself for putting up with the season's stress & zaniness. I LIKE YOU is both an entertaining & enriching read that will keep you laughing all the way to the new year. and my, how practical too...the hardcover slipcover also doubles as a secret foldout pinup.
