Berinfell Prophecies 01 Curse of the Spider King

This book was a very entertaining read for me. The storyline was a tad forgettable (I say this because I have to really concentrate to remember what it was) but the concept was very intriguing, even if a bit cliché. There was some great humor spread throughout the book, and the kids (elves) were very believable. Some moments in the book were very well done, and certainly memorable. Like the trap devised by the heroes of Allyra, the tree attacking an average school kid, and of course the party at the end. When I started the book I expecting there to be glaringly obvious changes in style every once in a while, seeing as it’s co-authored, but Wayne Thomas Batson and Christopher Hopper did an amazing job blending their two unique voices into one. It’d take some pretty intense study to find out who wrote what, lol. I’d certainly recommend this book for tweens especially, but other ages as well. Overall, the book felt like an intro to me . . . But a necessary one. I am certainly looking forward to see how this series progresses.

This book is amazing, simply amazing. The characters are forced to make heart-wrenching decisions as they seek to rid the world of a pirate named Bartholomew Thorne; a cruel pirate who ganged up with Vikings, and a man called The Merchant; the supplier for all evil-doers that the world has ever known. Action-packed, emotional, and down-right amazing, this book is so good that you’ll want to read it over and over again.

Door Within 03 Final Storm

The book is great but I found the ending of this book unsatisfying, but the same goes for the entire trilogy. I was very glad that Aidan was more prominent in this book, and it was a quite moving book. The Rise of the Wyrm Lord and The Final Storm really felt like they were originally one book but cut in half for the sake of having three books of relatively the same length, and unlike the first book, could not be read on it’s own. You won’t understand this book unless you read the other two, or at least the second book. Though I didn’t like the ending, the edition of The Lost Chapters dispelled the feeling of dissatisfaction for me, and all in all, I would read this book again. The story line was more forgettable than in the other books, and some of the last few scenes didn’t seem to really make sense for me. My taste was somewhat conflicting with the author’s voice. Wayne Thomas Batson has and almost unfeeling narration style, leaving it to the characters to set the mood. By the end of the book I was longing for a line like “The black velvet sash rippled across her shoulders” but was left with “She wore the black velvet hand-embroidered sash” (pg 248) I did love this book, despite all these things and I feel completely comfortable recommending it to any book lover.

Door Within 02 Rise Of The Wyrm Lord

This is a very exciting book. I was rather disappointed that Aidan played such small a part in this book, and his glimpse was just enough like him and just enough not like him to make the swap irritating. Aidan’s separation from Gwenne was almost unbearable for me. But if you can get past all that, Antoinette’s story is quite intriguing. Antoinette already has some experience in sword fighting, riding horses, ect. When she enters the realm, and quickly becomes a sword maiden. She, together with the other knights depart on a trip to investigate some strange messages they received from their allies in Yewland. Antoinette finds herself torn between following her orders from the King and fulfilling a promise she made to Aidan, to find the glimpse twin of his friend Robby who has turned to Paragor’s side. Beware: If you buy this book, buy The Final Storm at the same time. The Rise of the Wyrm Lord end with a cliff-hanger. You will sincerely regret it if you don’t.

Door Within 01

I absolute loved this book. But that won’t help anyone considering buying it, no? It starts out with an average high school guy, named Aidan, having to move away from his home, leaving his only friend in the world behind. And he- well he is just plain mad. Who wouldn’t be? Having to move all the way across the country for his GRAMPA. But through some strange events, and an extraordinary story, he finds his way into a different world. In that other world he finds people who expect him to become a knight, in just a week. And they are relying on him to find a way to convince a king -who looks strangely familiar- to join their side in a battle which could very likely end in disaster not only in their world, but our world also. It’s a great book, but if you buy it in a book store, be careful because there are some messed up copies out. If the book says it “Includes the ALL NEW LOST CHAPTERS” check and make sure they are their before you buy it. The lost chapters should be between the epilogue and the acknowledgements.
