The Gigging Life: Lessons Learned on the Literary Road
by
Matt Love

, December 05, 2016
FUN!! FUN!! FUN!! Matt's 15th published book is simply fun to read, I almost regret saying fun though, because "fun" sounds like its an easy read and lacking substance. Read on my friend. With over 1,000 gigs under his belt Matt has seen it all, and I mean up there with the likes of Motorhead and the Ramones. This gem has many stories from book gigs that Matt has done in the past decade. I cant even touch the surface of what this book reveals. But my favorite is when Matt snuck books INTO the Oregon State Penitentiary library, yes, Matt may be the only person on earth that has snuck books "into" the small libraries of those locked up for 1 to 100 years. (Matt has received many handwritten letters to bring more books in). I say please pick this book up and start reading it.

Great Birthright

Another gem from Matt Love, but this time he throws in some fiction......or does he? Read this and you will soon learn that you "don't mess with Oregonians when it comes to their beaches". And a very small note within this book is about the greatest bartender on the planet, Rose is her name and she can serve a beer faster and better than any human, period! If you are thinking about starting to read all of the books Matt has released, I will suggest this one is not the book to start with. That's not a bad thing, I just felt it is easier to digest if you know Matt's other books.

Nice Piece of Astoria a Narrative Guide
by
Matt Love
Stan Nelson
, May 05, 2015
Matt Love nailed it again with "A Nice Piece of Astoria", This book came about from the first few months of Matt's relocation from Newport to Astoria. Matt drove, Matt walked, Matt explored, and Matt discovered the great hidden secrets of Astoria. A fun and smart narrative guide to what makes this town so unique. So grab this book, grab a drink and maybe even some "neon pickled grotesqueries" (from any tavern) and perch yourself at any spot in Astoria (outdoors or in an astablishment of sorts). Look around, chances are theres more stories to be found. "my discordant mood at the moment is in perfect concert with the uneven pattern of the falling rain"

Rose City Heist A True Crime Portland Tale of Sex Gravy Jewelry & Almost Rock & Roll
by

Rose City Heist is a fast and fun book from Oregon's master author Matt Love. A great story about Matt "coming clean" about the accusations against him and his partner in crime about the disappearance of over $500,000 worth of top of the line jewelry. Oh there's more, plenty more. There's Galaga, gravy (the band), gravy (the ingested kind), sex, tequila, cops, FBI, a speed chase, and a witness. . . . . . . Hmmmmm I've often wondered how Mr. Matt Love has obtained his riches. What a great book, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and am currently running through it a second time. And let me add, you will want to pick up 2 copies, the cover alone is worth framing.

Of Walking in Rain
by
Matt Love

AMAZING!!! I believe Matt Love has written the greatest book on RAIN. It's packed with great stories of RAIN that are fun, serious, hilarious, pissed off, and very beautiful. There is no "filler" in this book, you can read one page and feel you have read many stories. It's loaded with RAIN, its overflowing with RAIN. I have never wanted it to RAIN so much since reading "of Walking In Rain". I wish this book was waterproof so I could read it in the RAIN. example: "I brew tea and bring it outside. It's too hot to drink so I extend the cup into the storm and hold it there until my cup runneth over. Tea and RAIN....I then sip a metaphor." I'm looking forward to reading "of Walking In Rain" again. Now please do yourself a favor, become a member of Rain Anonymous, pick this book up and throw your umbrella away.

Love & the Green Lady
by
Matt Love

, July 15, 2011
Matt Love did it again! “LOVE & THE GREEN LADY” is an amazing read, I cant say it enough how much I enjoyed this book, I didn’t just enjoy it, I loved it. The “green lady” being the Yaquina Bay bridge in Newport, OR. I mean think about it, who has the talent to write a book about a bridge? And yet make it very entertaining. Matt Love does, and I don’t think any other author could pull this off. There are great stories about the bridge, some are funny, some are sad, some are sexy, and some are bizarre. And of course there's Sonny, his dog, we get to find out what Sonny’s reactions are when riding over the bridge in Matt’s gigmobile. To touch some subjects: who walks the bridge in pajamas? What’s in the briefcase? What’s an amorous avocation? What’s with B.T.’s pounce? What makes Sonny dance? All of these have to do with the bridge. The photos are great too, mostly taken by Matt himself with help from some of his talented students, different style pictures from different sets of eyes. This book is part 2 of the Newport Trilogy, its written in the same way as “Super Sunday in Newport”(part 1) was, its quick chapters makes it an easy read. Purchase this book, you will not be let down.

Gimme Refuge The Education of a Caretaker
by
Matt Love

, August 02, 2010
AMAZING!!!!! I couldn't stop reading Gimme Refuge (a prequel to Super Sunday in Newport), I carried it with me everywhere in the 2 days it took to read it, I cut corners at work to prolong my lunch, I drove faster to arrive early, I stayed up late, I did anything posible just to shove my nose back into this book. Matt Love has an amazing ability to place the reader right behind his eyes and make us see the book exactly as it happened. Another great title for this book could have been "Emotional Rescue". It is here that Matt took chances that many people wouldnt take and dove into unknown grounds in his life and ultimately found his footing in writing, teaching and where he became the caretaker of the Nestucca Bay National Wildlife Refuge. I just wish my son could have a teacher like Matt in school, heres a quote from the book about his passion for the job as a teacher in 1998 when he also ran the school newspaper (which the students loved to read). Matt to the principle: "I told him if he insisted on approving the newspaper before it went to the printer I would hand him my typed resignation in five minutes" You dont find teachers like that anymore....ever. I can't say enough good things about this book, it was very uplifting/sad/funny and encouraging. Buy it, borrow it, steal it, whatever, JUST READ IT!!!!!!

Super Sunday In Newport
by
Matt Love

Super Sunday in Newport is an amazing read! I stumbled upon it in Seaside, OR. It took me about 30 seconds to realize I had to own it, just a few glances and paragraphs and I was hooked. Matt Love captures the human factor of the locals and the beauty of the Oregon coast so very well, add some laughs (outloud), lessons, coastal laws, tears and a couple beers (local brews) and you have Super Sunday in Newport. I felt I was there every step of the way, from the early morning jaunts on the beach with his dogs through every quick stop at a local tavern. A true review of the book would take way too long to write, trust me you will not be disappointed in this book. Purchase a copy or two and dive into the world of Matt Love and the Oregon Coast, I did, and I'm damn glad I did. I've since purchased a second copy to give to a friend.
