Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. When you're down on your luck, dwelling in a pity party for all that's wrong with your life, pick up a copy of Wild. Cheryl Strayed lays open her life to her readers and she doesn't apologize for it. She merely tells us the story of where she came from, where she went, and how she got there. A tough and sometimes scary story (how many can say being without a handful of change and no way to get money wouldn't be frightening), Strayed makes us realize that when people are stripped to their cores, they can overcome.

Loved this book. No fluff here. Strayed tells it like it happened, sharing her life and journey along the PCT, brutally open and honest. While some might say she's crazy for what she did, others - like me - will be astounded. I didn't expect this to be such a great read, but I couldn't stop once I started. If you enjoy a good adventure, a little mystery and more than a few laughs, give this one a second glance. Cheers, Cheryl Strayed!
