Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window & Disappeared
by
Jonas Jonasson
Mad Runner 1
, October 22, 2014
Let's take a backwards journey into the past lives of a centenarian and see what living is really all about. What a wild ride; bad birthday, bad guys, bad knees and questionable choices PLUS beautiful women, great luck, good vodka and an elephant. This is life to it's fullest with few things to regret and more things to cheer!

Gone Girl

Read, read, read, slam book down, walk away muttering, waving arms in frustration, walk around block, pick book back up, read, read, read, gasp, argh!, WHAT?, slam book shut while asking self why I am reading this book, mutter, mutter, mutter, read, read, read, repeat several more times, then ... inconceivable! Done. An incredibly frustratingly great book with so many twists and turns an Olympic gymnast would have a tough time pulling the moves off. Read it. Then find a friend and make them read it so you can roll your eyes in silent agreement.

The River of Doubt: Theodore Roosevelt's Darkest Journey
by
Millard, Candice

, January 01, 2012
Teddy Roosevelt has always been a fascinating person to me. From his early health challenges to the determined youth that struggled to overcome those challenges and into his dispare at the loss of his first wife, he has embodied a lost attribute that makes a larger than life persona human. This book takes on what would seem a selfish last grand hurrah to many contemporaries and shows us the humanity and willingness to give that one of our best presidents held dear to him.
