This sounds really nice -- except for the fact that it's a CD. I don't *want* a cookbook that's only on CD -- I want to be able to read the recipe and refer back to it as I go. I wish the publisher would reconsider giving us a hard-copy format. Thank you.

Sunflower Splendor: Three Thousand Years of Chinese Poetry

Once upon a time I had this book and I foolishly let it go. It has a very wide range of Chinese poetry -- both temporally and stylistically. I seem to recall that the footnotes were informative as to the backstory as well, but I wouldn't swear to it at this point.

Nine Lives is a pure pleasure to read. The smoothly flowing, deeply textured prose that leads you through the people's lives and some of the history of the city brings it all to life in your mind's eye.
