This collection of short stories was my first introduction to John Sayles, long before I saw any of his phenomenol movies. I re-read these stories over and over, and bought copies for everyone I knew. His characters are not always completely sympathetic, but you will find yourself wishing you could meet them in real life.

This is an extremely absorbing and enlightening story that is both romantic and tragic, combining fictional characters in a factual historical setting. I found myself re-reading many sentences in order to savor their beauty.
