Few writers today produce work that demands subsequent reads but after reading Assorted Fire Events, I would conclude that David Means is one of those writers. The Spot is no different.

Devil All the Time

Reminiscent of Flannery O'Conner's south, this is Daniel Ray Pollock's Appalachia, full of nebulous and desperate characters trying to get out or survive the burden of their own existence. Similar to his brillinat debut, Knockemstiff, this is the rare novel that possesses the ability to stamp the reader with the stain of its creation. Both books lingered in both my waking and sleeping hours after finishing them. I look forward to whatever he produces next.
