Still Life: Chief Inspector Gamache 1
Carol Forrest
, January 30, 2013
You will be intrigued by the crime and you will fall in with love Louise Penny's characters. The kind and introspective Chief Inspector Gamache with his very real younger sidekick, Jean Guy Beauvoir, arrive in the idyllic town of Three Pines to find that all is not as it appears. The townspeople are loveable but flawed, and one of them is a murderer. This is literary fiction by an award winning author. You will want to grab the next and the next Penny book to keep up with these memorable characters.

The Beautiful Mystery: Chief Inspector Gamache 8
by
Louise Penny
Carol Forrest
, January 02, 2013
The stellar Inspector Gamache is the father-brother-husband you wish you had - not perfect, but brilliantly intuitive and unfailingly kind. His sidekick Beauvoir is the brother-friend you actually have - opinionated, judgmental, human. The duo is summoned to solve a mystery in a remote monastery. The reader revels in the atmosphere as these Surete officers unravel secrets and face their own enemies and demons. You will eagerly await Louise Penny's next novel in the series when it comes out in August, 2013.

Don't let the subject matter, leprosy, stop you from this great read. You follow Rachel through her life, beginning with being sent to Kalaupapa, a leper colony, as a child. Regardless of the isolation, the pain and the stigma of leprosy in the late 1800's, Rachel manages to have an uplifting life. You will cheer for Rachel and remember her positive outlook long after you have finished the last page.
