Twilights Dawn Black Jewels
by
Anne Bishop

, January 01, 2012
I read so many good books this year, but Twilight's Dawn was a book I eagerly awaited. This collection of short stories set in Bishop's world of The Black Jewels, is a stunning "conclusion" for Daemon and Janelle and the many characters fans have grown to love, from The Black Jewels trilogy on through her sequels and standalones. Each tale brings a good sense of fulfillment and completion for these multifaceted and ever intriguing "witches". Though there is considerable sadness, there is always loss and sacrifice in their world. You come to accept that. Struggles for power, love and peace come full circle in ways that still manage to shock and surprise even hardcore fans of the series. I cried often, aching along with certain characters as relationships were forever changed and some major characters come to pass. Some were rather difficult to accept, even in fiction. I love these characters that much. This has always been a sexy, thrilling take on the battle against good and evil, where the lines are often blurred by passion and need, but our main characters stay true to themselves and fulfill their destinies. I absolutely loved this book. Bishop's writing is as darkly delicious and beautiful as ever. And heartbreaking, as well. Earlier, Bishop stated this was the end of their world, their stories are complete. After much distress and out and out begging from many fans, she has gone as far as to say there may, down the line be more. I have my fingers and toes crossed. Easily 5 stars.

Iron Fey 04 Iron Knight
by
Julie Kagawa

, December 03, 2011
The fourth and final installment of the Iron Fey, is written from the POV of Ash, the Winter Court Prince and true love of Meghan, the Iron Queen. Being a true Fey, Ash is unable to live with Meghan in the Iron Realm, and has vowed to find a way to honor his knight's oath to love and protect her always. In order to do so, Ash must become human and gain a soul. With the help of his best friend and Summer Court archenemy, Puck, and the ever mysterious Cat Sidth, Grimalkin, Ash sets out to do just that. The events that follow take Ash on his most difficult and often terrifying adventure yet. Ash must face his past as a Dark Prince and survive trials in the ever dangerous Wyldwood and beyond to the End of the World. While Julie always manages to surprise her fans with new characters and unbelievable circumstances, she takes Ash and Puck and us, on the the biggest rollcoaster ride yet. New levels of desire, fear, pain, shame and despair, threaten to keep Ash from his goal, until he learns what it truly means to be human and have a soul, and even then, he must survive the tests put before him by a mysterious cloaked guardian. I won't spoil any of the adventure by naming names or mentioning any other specific locals or events, but suffice to say, those that travel with Ash and help him on his journey, also become part of his tests and cause him to question his quest, his heart and all that he believes to be true. Ash is my favorite character, and The Iron Knight is by far, my favorite of all the Iron Fey novels. If you're an Ash fan as well, you won't be disappointed. Never fear, there is plenty of Puck and Grim to go around and provide their much loved comedy relief, as well as surprise characters that do nothing but add to the richness of this epic story of true love and sacrifice. Though we don't hear much from Meghan, we get just what we need to make their journey complete and then some. Five massive stars!

Wicked Lovely 05 Darkest Mercy
by
Melissa Marr

, September 30, 2011
Sadly this the last of the wonderfully dark and dangerous world of Wicked Lovely. Once again Melissa pushes her characters to their limits and her fans over the edge. There are so many twists and surprises in this conclusion of MY all time favorite series. After following and LOVING(and lusting) over these characters for years now, I was shocked, surprised and often brought to tears. This is a stunning piece of faerie fantasy as always, and quite bittersweet. I refuse to leave any comments close to a spoiler, you have to experience this raw and with no preconceived notions other than your own after reading Fragile Eternity. That said, DM left me feeling all at once heartbroken, exhilarated and hopeful for my favorites as they once again face unimaginable odds to save the world as they know it and those that they serve and love. If you haven't read the series, you're missing out on some of the most creative, rich and deliciously dark faeries ever to hit the printed page. They are strong, beautiful and at times horrifying and yet, at their weakest(?)surprisingly human and completely believable. A must-read for anyone who enjoys a little "Grimm" in their faery tales. 5 massive stars.

Shadowfever Fever 05
by
Karen Marie Moning
therealbellacullen
, September 14, 2011
As with each of the previous Fever books, Karen Marie Moning out does herself. Mac gets deeper into the Fae world and Barrons mysterious past and tackles unbelievable odds and even more monsters. Just when you think she may have it all figured out, KMM manages to shock, surprise, thrill and of course, excite you to the extreme. With more twists than a bottle top, it's hard to put down. Where do you stop? If possible, I grew to love these characters even more and felt like I was right there in the streets, Faery, BB&B, wherever and everywhere Mac's search takes her. The emotions and actions are so well described and defined you truly feel everything Mac goes through. And Barrons...well, he's...you'll just have to read it to find out. Another massive 5 stars!

Wolves of Mercy Falls 03 Forever
by
Maggie Stiefvater
therealbellacullen
, July 31, 2011
Nothing short of phenomenal. Maggie takes us even further into the lives (past and present) of the Mercy Falls wolves, their human friends and families. Without "spoilering", I can say you will find yourself caring and hoping for characters you may have previously found cold, arrogant and self absorbed, well because for the most part they were. Yet while staring their fears and life and death in the face, they manage to mature and tear at your heart strings as you root them on. Full of unique twists and many surprises, Forever will not disappoint. Maggie proves again, love can be Forever.

Seven Tears Into the Sea
by
Terri Farley

This was selected as a Wet and Wild July book read with my YA Paranormal club. I found it to be a good choice. It's a very sweet and at times bittersweet, beach worthy, quick read. With just enough Celtic mythology, magic and romance and real life interference to keep up the pace and enough tradition and wit to make our leading lady and her Gram someone you can relate to and cheer on. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a short but well written piece of a selkie inspired modern day legend and a little summer romance.
