Preludes and Nocturnes: Sandman 1
by
Neil Gaiman

I was always a little wary of reading graphic novels, not really thinking it would be my thing. But my love for Neil Gaiman trumped this wariness, and I found one of my favorite series of books. "Preludes & Nocturnes," the first of The Sandman series, introduces Morpheus, the Lord of the Dreamworld. This, and the rest of the series, takes readers on a journey through the Dreamworld and the waking world, and through the family dynamics of the Endless: the family to which Morpheus belongs, neither god, nor mortal. If you too are wary of graphic novels, love Neil Gaiman as much as I do, or just love a good story, check out "Preludes & Nocturnes."

The Sun Also Rises
by
Ernest Hemingway

If you've only read 'The Old Man and the Sea' in high school English class, don't dismiss Hemingway quite yet. Pick up 'The Sun Also Rises.' One of his earliest works, and best, 'The Sun Also Rises' is about a bunch of young, bored people in Paris in the 20s. So what do they do? They go to Spain to watch the bullfights in Pamplona. All you'll ever need to know about bullfighting you can learn from this book. Oh, and there's romantic intrigue as well. Something for the girls, something for the guys. Also something for the modernists as well.

This was such a good book, and I'm so glad I got it through Indiespensable! It's extremely relevant to our times, and is also a quick read. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a different perspective.
