Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Rules Of Survival

I absolutely loved this book. I could not put it down, I read it in two days. The book centers around a teenage boy, and his two younger sisters. The book is mainly about how they got through living with their abusive mother. You feel for them, you feel like one of the children. You get introduced to a few other characters. They help add to the story and show what they all have to go through. The novel is written as a journal to the youngest sister from Matt. The purpose was so Matt could explain to her everything that had happened, and why things are the way they are.

Have you ever been depressed, had thoughts of suicide? If so, this is a must read. You go through the journey and hardship of 3 teenagers who all have their own reasons. This book puts you through quite a few loops. You become attached to all three characters, you feel as if you've gone through their situations. You want them to get help, and to get better. This book is their journey through it, their troubles, struggles, and emotions. Like all Ellen Hopkin books, you get a huge twist towards the end.

I am a huge fan of Ellen Hopkin's, if you're a fan, this is a for sure read! This book puts you trhough a roller coaster of rides. If anyone has been put down by others, abused, dealt with religious difficulty, I recommend reading it. The main character is quite loveable, you feel sorry for her. In a way, you put yourself in her shoes, at least I did. You feel happy when things go right, scared when something goes wrong. By the end of the book, you're waiting for that happy ending, then, there is a huge twist(not trying to spoil anything!).

Identical

This book was amazing! I couldn't put it down. Like most of Ellen Hopkin's books, you're left wanting more, and wondering what happened. Identical really hits home to those that have gone through abuse. You feel what the main characters feel. You get attached, and close to the ending, a twist is thrown upon you. I recommend this book to anyone who likes twisted novels.
