Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

If you have a child who does not seem to enjoy any books, or reading in general, give them these books. Every person I have suggested these to have fell in love with them! Take it from a teen who has been i love with them for years!

When I got this when it came out, I was so excited to read it! This book is so good, but really sad sometimes, telling about ThunderClans' legendary leader and what struggles she went through to get where she got. Must-read for every Warriors fan.

Higurashi When They Cry 01

Most mystery books are the same, with clue slowly leading to the criminal, not many fake "keys" to lead to the culprit, but the Higurashi books leave you scratching your head with the amount of fake clues distributed throughout the series, making you think one person is guilty, then later that another is, or that someone is dead. Ryukishi07 has done an amazing job, creating the most unforgettable, crazy story that will linger in your mind long after you have read the last installment.

Warriors Super Edition SkyClans Destiny
by

Like every Erin Hunter book, she nails the story, making the reader hang on until the end. This story refrains from the regular Clans we hear about, and have only a few mentions of Firestar in it, which makes it a breath of fresh air for the regular Warriors reader (like me). Of course, this story starts where the first of the special editions, Firestars' Quest, left off, telling us of how Skyclan had survived so many moons (months) without Firestar and Sandstorm. But what happens to the lost Clan? Do they survive, or do they die off again? You must read to find out.

After making fans (like myself) suffer for a long time, Naoko Takeuchi has returned with the favorite manga and anime franchise all over the world! This time, it tells us of the all-amazing Sailor V to start off the adventure again! Sailor V has always been my favorite, so I am really excited for this to be released. Fans, this is definitely the year of Sailor Moon!

If I Stay
by
Gayle Forman

"If I Stay" is a story of love and loss, of tragedy and hope, and the biggest decision of a persons' life. There is rarely ever a story so touching and heart-felt that you feel like you are part of the ride through, and this is one of those stories. While reading, you feel as if you are standing there with Mia, watching her greatest memories and her love ones grieving for that one, painful day that seems like an eternity. With character so alive-seeming, it seems as if they are people you have known for a long time or a good friend you go to school with. A must-read no matter your preferences or age.
