The sort of prose one could read over and over. It echos early Cormac McCarthy yet stands on its own. A pleasure to read. Also adapted into a beautiful film.

I read this several months ago and still find myself involuntarily reminiscing over some scenes. Haunting, eerily nostalgic, vaguely familiar. Flynn has a knack.

The Road

Cormac McCarthy

I'm a longtime McCarthy fan and this novel seemingly came out of nowhere to win the pulitzer and be selected by Oprah (Oprah...my God!) for her hallowed book club. But the book lives up to its hype. A story of human struggle in the direst of circumstances. A story of familial love. A story of survival and what separates those with an instinct--or perhaps will--to survive from those who don't. Darwinian yet spiritual.
