Snow Angels

What a great surprise this book was! Not only is it a great mystery and police procedural, but the book is set in the Lapland area of Finland. I confess to knowing very little about Finland today or its history. Additionally I knew little about the diverse people of Finland. This book and its sequel, Lucifer's Tears which is set in Helsinki, both taught me a lot about a very interesting, diverse country. The characters are richly drawn including the criminals who are multi-faceted. I ended caring about the protagonist, his family and coworkers. James Thompson is an American who is married to a Finn. So he brings both slants of living in Finland to these books. I cannot wait for the third book. These are the type of books you want to read on a cloudy, cold or rainy day because once you start them, you will not want to put them down.

What a great find! Superb, fast engrossing story with wonderful character development and a great setting. No idea how it would end and still thinking about it!

This book introduced me to Nigerian's diverse socio-economic strata and rich history. It is well written. I could not put it down. The plot was reminiscent of a Graham Greene or Ernest Hemingway novel. I highly recommend this book, and I have to many friends. It has not disappointed them. I would love to see a movie made based on this book. It was also helpful in providing an understanding of some of the recent troubles that took place or originated in Nigeria.
