Legend 01

For a first time novelist I was delighted with how well written the story is. I found myself straining to read faster and faster so that I could find out just how everything was going to come to a head. I was not let down as I had an inkling of where the story was going. I really believe that Marie Lu has shown a lot of promise with this first book and look forward to the rest of the series and anything else she has to offer.

Kingdom Besieged Chaoswar Saga 01

Raymond E Feist

Raymond Feist continues to draw me in to the world of Midkemia. I started reading his books in high school and haven't ever given up. I can honestly say that the continuation of the series keeps me involved in the lives of my favorite characters from the beginning books in the series. I love the continued use of the names used in the first books and the traits that seem to breed true. Raymond Feist continues to delight me and keep me invested in his series.

Dead Reckoning Southern Vampire 11
by
Charlaine Harris

I enjoyed this book and the closeness of Sam and Sookie throughout. I felt like this was the second book where Sookie spent a lot of time wondering if she should cut ties with all of her supernatural associates...and nothing was decided. I did however like the look into the relationship of Sookie and Sam...it seemed like Charlaine was trying to push them together a little more. I know they both have significant others but it seemed like Sam was on the fence with his girlfriend at times, and certainly Sookie has issues with Eric, and Bill when he was in the picture a few times. I totally enjoyed the moments with Bubba. I love every time he is in the story with Sookie. Overall it was a good book but it was a second book where Sookie thought a lot about the way her life is going without actually figuring anything out.

Devil Colony

Rollins, James

I love anything by James Rollins in all honesty. I have followed his Sigma series from the beginning and have totally enjoyed the characters. Once in a while in this book I felt like it was to slow or that the info was bombarding me but every single bit of that was worth it to get to the very end of the book and the secrets that are revealed. Amazing! Now I can't wait until the next one.

Altar of Eden

James Rollins

I have read everything that James Rollins has put out and this was a pretty good book. I enjoyed it greatly. While it definitely wasn't as good as some of his novels it was a solid story. I loved the setting in New Orleans and the whole Crocodile situation. Rollins definitely tells a great story and he just knows how to weave in fact and fiction.

I tend to like the dystopian novels in the young adult form because they are so rich for discussion. I was describing this to my mother who has a love for these types of books like me, as having more similarity to The Giver rather than Hunger Games. Both deal with societal control but this one tends to be more like The Giver because of the dulling down of emotions. I really enjoyed this book and felt for the main character who felt different from the start because of her mother. I can't wait for the next book because the ending really leaves me wanting more. I will definitely be pre-ordering the next book to get it as quickly as possible.

Amazonia

The book is fascinating...what always draws me in with James Rollins is the excitement of getting done with the book and reading the section at the end that explains what is real and researched and what he has taken a bit of liberty with. James Rollins would be my pick to take some very interesting and exciting history courses from. While much of his story is unbelievable at times Rollins has made me sit back and think about the possibilities.

Scarecrow

Matthew Reilly

I would have given this a five out of five but Matthew Reilly took a turn that kinda pissed me off. The book is fast paced and pretty awesome I am not going to lie. Scarecrow has been a character that has continued to grow on me from the first book in the series. Sometimes I find myself wishing he would slow down the action once in a while. Still a wonderful book but the actions surrounding one of my favorite characters greatly upset me and made me consider not finishing to book for all of about an hour.

Divergent 01
by
Roth, Veronica

This book was recommended to me as a cross between the Hunger Games and The Giver (which are two of my favorite books of all time). What I find so intriguing is the main character's vulnerability. In the Hunger Games Katniss is a strong character who has to be strong for everyone. I really feel that Mockingjay is where we see Katniss and her vulnerability at its best. However from the start of Divergent we see the vulnerability of Beatrice and later as she transforms herself into Tris. Her vulnerability and her past are what make her so strong compared to the other characters. The fact that she has her background is what helps shape her into one of the strongest people. I kept thinking that the book was moving slow however I couldn't put it down and I was riveted by the character. Veronica Roth shows an amazing amount of promise for her first novel.

Heroes of Olympus 01 The Lost Hero

Rick Riordan

I am so excited about this book. I bought it read it and am now desperate for next years release of the second book. I love the three main characters, I love the weaving of two separate cultures. I started thinking I might know who the bad guy was in this storyline and surprise, surprise I was right. It had some of our favorite old characters in it which made me happy and hints at some more Percy action coming up in the series. I can't wait to see a little Percy/Jason match up. It will end up being fantastic no matter what happens in the story because Rick Riordan is an amazing storyteller.
