In the midst of reading The Kurt Wallander series. This story shows Mankell growing comfortable in his pacing and in his story telling. It is my favorite thus far..

Unbroken A World War II Story of Survival Resilience & Redemption
by
Laura Hillenbrand

I gave this book to my father (a World War II vet) and he raved about it so much I read it myself. As with Seabiscuit, this book is thoroughly researched and well written. It tells the story of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic track star, and Army Air Corps pilot. The book details the horrible experiences he went through, first as a survivor, then as a POW, after his plane was shot down over the Pacific. At the conclusion of the war, the book chronicals Zamperini's journey to redemption as he seeks to rid himself of the nightmares that haunt him from his time as a POW. Wonderful storytelling that sheds light on an a complex and interesting person.
