This is a "where have you been all my life!?" book of the highest order. I'm new to Geneen Roth's writing, and it's a game changer. She is funny, wise, humble and humbling, and relatable in the most comforting of ways. This field guide is truly a treasure trove of motivation, comfort, and life changing wisdom.

Habit Changers: 81 Game-Changing Mantras to Mindfully Realize Your Goals
by
M. J. Ryan
Leslie
, March 26, 2018
I opened this book expecting a lighthearted read of the "happiness psychology" variety. What I got instead was a very well researched manual full of concrete advice on mindfulness and ways to change our thinking for more success and joy every day. I'm a mental health clinician, and I'll be boosting my life as well as the lives of my clients with this great read.

Love Notes for Freddie
by
Eva Rice
Leslie
, February 07, 2018
Love Notes For Freddie is Eva Rice doing what she does best. It's a lushly descriptive, character driven story set in another palpably alive British community. The story alternates between character viewpoints to create an interwoven experience of time frames and emotions. I've loved all of Rice's books and this one definitely has earned a place on the "repeat reads" shelf.

When Difficult Relatives Happen To Good
by
Leonard Felder
Leslie
, January 20, 2018
This is an absolutely invaluable resource, and an enjoyable read as well. Felder is at once humorous and precise as he lays out the types of dysfunctional people and families. Rather than call for deep therapeutic work or dramatic confrontations, he offers functional methods for dealing with complicated loved ones. Holidays, gatherings, and day to day life suddenly seem much more manageable viewed through the author's lens. I am a licensed therapist, and I'd highly recommended this book on both a personal and professional level.

Toxic Parents Overcoming Their Hurtful Legacy & Reclaiming Your Life
by
Susan Forward
Leslie
, January 20, 2018
This is really a fantastic book. Whether you'd term your own family as toxic or not, this book is full of useful information on coping with unhealthy people and patterns. Well-researched and written in an informative fashion, the book first lays out the types of toxic families, and then offers specific methods on coping and making changes. It's also an amazing resource for new parents, as it can help prevent unhealthy patterns from beginning in the first place. The exercises and self-inventories alone can be revelatory. I think this book should be included in Adult Life 101.

The Little Paris Bookshop
by
Nina George
Leslie
, September 19, 2017
Lovely novel- the aspect that motivated me to post a review was the similarities in feel to One Hundred Years Of Solitude, a long time favorite. I enjoyed Monsieur Perdu's point of view, as well as the descriptive writing and intriguing storyline. Definitely a unique reading experience- the story feels at once like a fresh take and a timeless tale.

I'll See You in Paris
by
Michelle Gable
Leslie
, July 14, 2017
Fact meets fiction in a most enticing way in I'll See You In Paris. Inspired by the life of the very real Duchess of Marlborough, the story hits every note of history, family, and love. The plot unfolds between the 1970's and 2000's, with plenty of Gilded Age references as well. Locales like rural England and metropolitan Paris keep the story unfolding at an addictive pace. I couldn't put it down, and it's cast of historical characters has inspired a long to-read list of biographies!

Perfume Collector
by
Kathleen Tessaro
Leslie
, July 11, 2017
The Perfume Collector is one of the best books I've read in years. As an avid reader, I sometimes struggle with finding the types of stories and characters that truly transport. Kathleen Tessaro, with her beautiful descriptive style has created a world so real, it's palpable. The story spans from the 1920's to 1950's and is immaculate in it's attention to historical detail. Highly recommended- it's the type of book you want to read again as soon as you finish the last page!

Classic Style Hand It Down Dress It Up Wear It Out
by
Kate Schelter, Andy Spade
Leslie
, May 31, 2017
I'm in love with my style, and Kate Schelter is to thank for it. Classic Style is such a gorgeous book. I've highlighted, taken notes, and may frame some choice illustrations before it's all over. Schelter has managed to marry minimalism, current fashion, and the magic of traditional style into one beautiful little volume. The book includes lists, drawings, interviews, and plenty of the author's own stories. I'm an instant fan of her writing and art, and as for my wardrobe: classic style from now on!

Madame Chic Collection Lessons from Madame Chic At Home with Madame Chic & Polish Your Poise with Madame Chic
by
Jennifer L Scott
Leslie
, May 26, 2017
Of the plethora of French lifestyle books gracing the shelves across America, Jennifer Scott's Madame Chic titles stand alone in their timelessness and substance. Being a fan of the genre, I've read so many volumes on the beauty habits, style, and culture of French women. Jennifer Scott manages to capture this spirit and deliver it in realistic and useful ways. Her tips make daily life more graceful and enjoyable, and her positive attitude creates a sense of joy rather than restriction when creating habits of self-discipline. This set would suit anyone from young ladies to women "of a certain age," and would be a beautiful gift during times of transition in life.

Home Fires
by
Julie Summers
Leslie
, April 30, 2017
Home Fires is a beautifully written and well-researched book on the the social history of the Women's Institute in Great Britain during World War 2. Like many books of a similar nature, the facts are all included, but author Julie Summers warmly brings the stories of the institute and it's members to life. From jam-making to postwar reconstruction efforts, this book examines the crucial and inspiring roles women played during and after the war. This book inspired the vibrant PBS Masterpiece series of the same name, and is truly a gem in the genre of social and historical literature.

Radiant Road
by
Katherine Catmull
Leslie
, April 03, 2017
A disclaimer: this review is written by an adult who often tires of grown-up stories and prefers the whimsy and freedom of a little YA fiction here and there! The Radiant Road offers a perfect balance of grown up choices made from the threshold of youth. The descriptions of Irish landscape and folklore are gorgeous, and the pace of the story got my heart beating quickly more than once as I hoped humans and fairies together could right the wrongs of the tale. Recommended for young people and the young at heart alike.

Call the Midwife 01 A Memoir of Birth Joy & Hard Times
by
Jennifer Worth
Leslie
, April 03, 2017
I picked this book up thinking it would be a fun companion to the BBC television show. What I found was a beautifully written and engaging set of stories by Jennifer Worth. This memoir is something of a time capsule, and Worth's storytelling truly creates an atmosphere for readers. I loved the description, the varied observations, and the beautiful moments of so many lives changed by the midwives.

Dear Fatty
by
Dawn French
Leslie
, April 03, 2017
"Cozy up and chat with Dawn French!" really should be the blurb on this book. French creates an absolutely intimate environment as she shares her life in letter form. Dear Fatty reads like a note from a friend, except that friend is a world-class comedienne and role model for strong women everywhere! French shares about family life, romances, her career (Fatty is a pet name for Jennifer Saunders, so French & Saunders fans never fear, plenty of behind the scenes stuff in here), and her philosophies on life. She truly is an impressive woman with stories to tell that range from tear-jerkers to guffawing laugh-out-loud moments.
