I love this series, and I think that this first novel is my favorite. These mysteries have the sadness of a past stained by war, and yet it makes the character stronger. This is a cute story about a very strong woman who wishes to help people. She's not just a detective, she cares about who she works for and sympathizes with them. I loved all of the characters in this book and the setting was cute. The history behind the characters is also fantastic and I love how it weaves in between past and present. It's an intriguing story, but also quaint with a god ending. I recommend to anyone that enjoys a warm story and good characters.

Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children

I loved this book for many reasons. It was unique in the fact that it wove amazing old photographs into the story, and it had such a beautiful element of magic! The story was so interesting that I could barely put it down. The main character, Jacob, was a good, personable character that goes to a mysterious island near england. He is trying to find out about his grandfather's past, who recently died, and must solve the mystery of his last words. The island is enchanting and seems like a perfect secluded spot. The time that the author took to talk about the past and the reasons for everything makes the story even more magical. I loved every character in this book with their strange gifts and pictures! It's a beautiful story, and I hope that there will be a sequel.

Thirty Nine Steps

This is an amazing mystery book! It takes place just before WWI and i about a man that finds out a terrible secret that will make WWI be a disaster. He must run for his life and hide out in the country. Along the way, he meets great characters, such as a lazy farmer, a politician trying to get elected, and a creepy owl-eyed enemy. Each chapter has a new adventure to be encountered, and there are small bits of comedy that make it an excellent story. Anyone that likes classic adventure or mystery will love this intriguing story. It's a short read, but packed with adventure, and I couldn't put it down. I recommend it to everyone!

I love this entire series, and this is the latest book. Becky Brandon is so relatable and funny! Everything that happens to her makes you laugh, and it's a great light read. In this one, she is trying to cope with being a mother, and a problem happens at the bank where her husband works. I love that she tries so hard to make things right and has such good intentions, but everything goes wrong. The ending is perfect and it's a heartwarming story. I hope that this author writes more stories about the Brandon family!

Murder in the Mews: Four Cases of Hercule Poirot: The Official Authorized Edition
by
Agatha Christie

Each of these mysteries is well-spun and enjoyable. This book is perfect for fans of Hercule Poirot, and each new story is completely different, with new, interesting characters and twisting plots. I liked that they were each short stories, a style that is not usual found in Poirot stories. I was able to breeze through them, and ended up staying up late more than once wanting to finish the story I was on! I love the way that Agatha Christie, including the time period, hint of comedy, and lovable detective. Poirot is definitely my favorite character she has created. It's no wonder that she is the Queen of Mystery, because her tales of stolen government documents, an apparent suicide, a small love affair, and the clues hidden in a shattered mirror and bed of flowers weaves such amazing mysteries that you be able to picture everything as clearly as if you were there.

I loved this book! It was a great light read, and all of the moments in it made me laugh. I think that many of us can relate to Becky Bloomwood and will be rooting for her to conquer her problems throughout the entire book. The entire series is great, and the characters just get better and better. If you are a fan of comedy or just need a light read, this book is perfect for you. It is an easy story, but it's really fun! I've found myself hoping for another book starring the shopaholic every time I finish the last, and I hope they're not over yet!

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Classic Regency Romance-Now with Ultraviolent Zombie Mayhem
by
Seth Grahame-Smith and Jane Austen
efox15
, February 29, 2012
This was such a funny read. People that have read PRide and Prejudice will especially like this new take on such a romantic classic. To be truthful, I thought that the author wrote in the "zombie attacks" quite well. He was careful about staying true to the characters and kept the storyline relatively similar (with the exception of the one huge change). I really enjoyed this as a fun light read, and I think that this author is extremely creative and clever. He has other titles, such as Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. Each of these is such a fun read, and a new favorite for anyone that likes twists on classics.

Where The Red Fern Grows
by
Rawls, Wilson

This is such a cute book. The story of Billy and his two hound dogs never gets old. My mother gave this to me after we got a bluetick coonhound, and I was so glad. It made me cry, laugh, and root for the main character and his dogs as they enter contests, endure hardships, and learn from their mistakes. This is a great read for kids that love animals, and adults, too. You won't forget this classic children's story, and it will make you want to have your own Old Dan and Little Ann to be there for you.

And Then There Were None
by
Agatha Christie
efox15
, February 29, 2012
This is without a doubt the best mystery book I have ever read. Ever since I finished it three years ago, I have been recommending it to friends. It will keep you guessing until the very end. Agatha Christie is second to none in creating suspense, endings with a twist, and extremely good plot and characters. I couldn't put it down from the minute I started it. If you are a mystery reader, this deserves a place on your bookshelf. The haunting poem from the beginning guides you through the story telling you of the "ten little indians" staying at a house alone on a island. This is one of my favorite books, and I have reread it several times! It's so good that I catch a new clue to the end each time I read it! Amazing story!

From the Earth to the Moon
by
Jules Verne
efox15
, February 29, 2012
I am a huge fan of Jules Verne stories. This book is not quite as well known as others of his, but I enjoyed it immensely. The characters from the gun club and the rivalry between Barbicane and Nicholl make the story so interesting and fun to read. They are extremely well created and will make you laugh. The chapters are really short, which I love about Jules Verne, so you can read them quickly. It's a great adventure that, while a little imaginative, teaches us much about the world of science, the moon, and even projectiles. Despite the many scientific references, you do not need to love science to read this book. It is a great read for people who love adventure and classics. I adored every minute of it, and I look forward to reading the sequel!

Stardust

Neil Gaiman

The storyline of this book is intricate and beautiful. I have been recommending it ever since I finished it. The characters are all so likable and interesting. This author was amazing at capturing the quaintness of the little town of Wall and the beauty of the other side of Wall. I loved the people in the strange marketplace, and all the adventures Tristan had while traveling around in the magical world. The ending is perfect and a great way to wrap everything up. Neil Gaiman is such a great storyteller. He is so descriptive and has you fall in love with every character. This is a great light read! Once you start it, you won't be able to put it down!

Something Fresh
by
P. G. Wodehouse
efox15
, February 13, 2012
I adored this book from the beginning to the end! It is such a light read and the characters have a comedic air to them that you can't help but like! It's a silly story of different characters that find themselves staying at Blandings, a castle owned a lovable, yet forgetful man named Lord Emsworth. As each of these characters try to attain their objective, the reader is taken through a hilarious story centered around mishaps that take place in the castle. This is a must-read, and I cannot wait to read the next one! P.G. Wodehouse is second to none in his ability to create stories that make you want to read more.

New York
by
Edward Rutherfurd
efox15
, February 08, 2012
I don't normally like any type of history. I get bored easily with long accounts of the past, but I couldn't put down Edward Rutherfurd's novel, New York. This is without a doubt the best historical fiction book I've ever read. By the end of the day I started it, I was already 200 pages into the book and not wanting to go to sleep. The plot passes through many years, showing the reader generations of a family living in New York. The characters are extremely likable and you feel their pain and losses as if they were your best friends. I love how it ties in people and things from the beginning of the book as they are passed down through the family. Some stories are heart-breaking, some exciting, and some with happy endings, but you'll love every minute of it!
