Burn Journals A Memoir
by
Brent Runyon

After reading Running with Scissors by Runyon, I knew I needed more of his words in my brain. Although the book moves slowly and makes me wonder how Runyon remembered conversations so precisely, it was still incredible to read and made me want more. As a former suicide-risk, this book really spoke to me in a way that I know could only happen because I went through that experience. Despite this, there was a complete lack of hope in Runyon's mind, which made me finish it wondering what happened afterwards. Still a great read, nonetheless.

Recovery Road
by
Blake Nelson

This book is a wonderful masterpiece about Madeline, a teenage 'party girl' that is put into a rehab, then halfway home. While on her way to the weekly group outing to the movies, she meets Stewart, a boy with similar issues to her. They instantly form a relationship, despite the rule that you can't date within the program. When Madeline is discharged from the program, she stays clean however stressful her life has become. When Stewart eventually completes the program, he and Madeline begin a long-distance relationship. After a while, Madeline begins to see that the relationship is a lot harder to maintain than she thought, especially when Stewart relapses. This book is tragic yet full of hope not only for people dealing with substance abuse, but for any teenager that is trying to mend a broken heart.

Impulse 02 Perfect
by
Ellen Hopkins

Absolutely amazing. The way that Hopkins explains what is going on through the characters' minds leaves me breathless--I couldn't put it down. Reading their struggles to find perfection was so addicting, I finished the book within a day. It is very interesting to watch the character's minds whir, and you can view the emotions they feel. Cara's point of view on her brother--who is picked apart in Impulse--was very mesmerizing and had me reconsider how I had previously perceived her. This book was incredible, and it inspired me to fall in love with Hopkins' writing all over again.
