Renegade History of the United States
by
Thaddeus Russell
Charles Adams
, September 01, 2011
Mr Russell is the kind of History teacher I wish I had. In "A Renegade History of the United States" he shares stories from groups of people that challenged the notion of what it means to define happiness and shows the reader how many freedoms we enjoy because these renegades' contributions were overlooked due to their beliefs, values or perceived morals that intersected the strongly held prejudices and biases of the ruling class. Mr Russell outlines how the renegade spirit of these marginalized groups challenge the notion of what it means to be "good" Americans and suggests they "made illicit joys not only possible but real."

Growing up in "the church" and having found my own way and defining my own worldview helped me to appreciate Kingsolver's brilliant work and the troubled relationships in it.
