Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania
by
Larson, Erik
Syd
, March 21, 2015
Erik Larson has done it again. Dead Wake-the Last Crossing of the Lusitania puts all the rumors of the sinking of this magnificent ship to rest. Mr. Larson lays out a factual but extremely readable account of all the participants in this engrossing drama. Some facts are eye openers(especially the British intelligence) and some are so very sad. WWl buff? This book is for you.. History buff? This book is for you. Lover of narrative nonfiction? This book is for you..

Factory Man: How One Furniture Maker Battled Offshoring, Stayed Local - And Helped Save an American Town
by
Macy, Beth
Syd
, March 10, 2015
This recommendation comes with great enthusiasm. The recommendation is for Factory Man by Beth Macy. The story is about the family-owned Bassett Furniture Company and how one member took on what he termed "the Asian invasion". John Bassett lll is unforgettable as are all those that are devoted to him, ( such as his factory workers), and some that definitely are not. Beth Macy has written a wonderful book for our times. To truly understand the effect of globalization on industry, in this case the furniture industry, you must read this book.. Kudos to Ms. Macy and those that brought this book to fruition.

Monuments Men Allied Heroes Nazi Thieves & the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History
by
Robert M Edsel, Bret Witter
Syd
, September 11, 2014
You've seen the movie, now read the book. It fleshes out the amazing men & woman whose race against time was heroic. The task of saving centuries of irreplaceable art that was systematically stolen by the Nazis, fall to these dedicated few. Without their steadfastness, the world of art and the world at large, would surely be a poorer place today. Future generations will stand in awe of these Monuments Men and their accomplishments.

The Arsenal of Democracy: FDR, Detroit, and an Epic Quest to Arm an America at War
by
Baime, A. J.
Syd
, July 31, 2014
Arsenal of Democracy by A. J. Baime is a fascinating book about WW2 and the utterly incredible country we live in.. It is a story of personalities, competitors at best, who come together to perform manufacturing feats that defy imagination. It is also the tale of Edsel Ford, a much misunderstood man who had a dream and brought it to fruition. He and his team produced one of our most feared aircraft of WW2, The Liberator. This is a story for everyone.

Lincoln's Sanctuary: Abraham Lincoln and the Soldiers' Home
by
Matthew Pinsker
Syd
, July 18, 2007
A little known part of the Lincoln presidency, before Camp David we had a summer White House in Washington--The Soldier's Home. Matthew Pinsker has written a readable and worthy contribution to our understanding of Lincoln, the man and his family, during a time of crisis for our nation. A must read for both layman and scholar.
