Alloy of Law Wax & Wayne Mistborn 01
by
Brandon Sanderson

I have to admit, the original Mistborn Trilogy was not my favorite, and I was a little hesitant to pick this book up. The best decision I made was to read this! Sanderson brings the Mistborn world into electricity and brings in a FANTASTIC whodunnit situation. The new characters reminiscent of Kelsier in small ways are beautifully written. An electrifying read that is hard to put down, I read this book in less than 24 hours. So good. Brandon Sanderson amazes me once again!

Hyperspace: A Scientific Odyssey Through Parallel Universes, Time Warps, and the 10th Dimension
by
Michio Kaku

, June 26, 2014
Kaku's passion for what he does it just beautifully conveyed as you read through his work. This read definitely takes some time getting through but you get the mere concepts of string theory, relativity and the 10 dimensions down. When I finished his book, I was so excited that he had more to read. If you've never taken a physics class, taken some or maybe are pretty knowledgeable about the topics, you still learn. I never thought I would be so excited to read a physics book after college. Definitely a book you can take anywhere with you and make you think.

Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat
by
Oliver Sacks
Katie Newman
, April 21, 2014
Sacks has a truly astonishing way of connecting readers to his patients and his cases he's describing. He takes neuroscience to a different level, studying the side of the brain that's so fleeting in research. There aren't any hard facts, just stories he retells. It's a beautiful way to realize how much your brain does, and how you actually relate to world. When you read about people trying to figure out what objects are called, it's simply amazing with what happens when you lose part of your brain. Definitely a book that you can reread over and over again and take more information from.

Subliminal: How Your Unconscious Mind Rules Your Behavior
by
Leonard Mlodinow
Katie Newman
, February 28, 2014
This is one of the most fascinating reads I've encountered. Neuroscience is just fascinating to anyone, we ALL have this organ that's just simply amazing. This is the second book I've read of Mlodinow, this one is a little easier to get into (I'm also a nerd). It can be a bit of a heavy read, nothing that re-reading a couple parts cant take care of. Note: If you want this to be an even better experience, read Gladwell's "Blink The Power of Thinking Without Thinking" and you'll have other stories to draw from and have a different outlook. The brain is amazing, might as well know what's going on in your own noggin.

Gone Girl
by
Gillian Flynn
Katie Newman
, February 28, 2014
I have read many books and seen many movies, all of which I am most likely to predict the next move of the character or just the ending. It never ceases to amaze me how Flynn brings that into perspective having her character talk about how we are all characters that have already been played. A haunting observation. She hooks you from the beginning taking the plot line along, almost like the musical "The Last Five Years" from two different spaces in time. The intricacy of the weaving of the story, you have to think that Flynn herself has a brain like Amy, always thinking 3 steps ahead. The storyline takes you through the whole spectrum of emotions from love all the way to disgust. The twists are turns are beautifully laid out. I recommend this book for those who are not faint at heart. Book lovers are always described as people who feel like a part of them is missing once their book is over, not reading about the characters anymore. You feel like apart of yourself is missing at the end, just not that part. Pure genius.
