The Bear and the Nightingale: Winternight Trilogy 1

Katherine Arden

For any fans of Fantasy/Folklore, this book was a dream-come-true! It takes place in Russia during a medieval time period, though not exactly....it begins with the children listening to their nurse telling them the fairytale of Jack Frost. I was hooked immediately, because the theme really was invoking old folklore or fairytales that would make Walt Disney giddy. Imagine all the original dark fairytales and what it would be like if they lived alongside us, its equal parts adventure and horror. Its really a personification of winter, as a dark harsh season and the kind of courage it takes to withstand it. I highly recommend this book to anyone searching for a new voice and a unique read! I can't wait to see where this author goes from here.

The Little Paris Bookshop

Perfect read for any book-lovers! The story of a floating bookstore-barge on the Seine, the owner of which considers himself an apothecary whom heals all 'ails' with the perfect book for each person who comes to his store... however the one person unable to 'heal' from his literary legacy, is himself. Armed with a single unopened letter from the love of his life who disappeared one day, he and a band of unusual friends head to the south of France to see how HIS story will end. Its a perfect summer read!

Go Set a Watchman
by
Harper Lee

The story of Scout (Jean Louise) as a child no longer, now 24, she lives in New York and has come home for a visit to Maycomb county...Harper Lee's sequel of "To Kill a Mockingbird" 55 years in the making. As children we all grew up reading her book in school, {To Kill a Mockingbird} was simply a part of being a kid, now I'd like to think that 'Go Set a Watchman' is a part of being an adult. Everyone should read Harper Lee's books, its an important part of American literature and history! Its especially important to me as i grew up with the nickname Scout.

With the current trend of adventure type books and movies, i thought I'd dig up one of my favorites. This woman not only has an incredibly brave spirit, she also has an amazing adventure! She gives up her whole life in the states to travel to exotic places and meet interesting people! Reading this book will make you want to gain invaluable memories and experiences by going out into the world and seeing all that it has to offer....before its too late. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is an avid traveler/explorer or oftentimes dreams of going to these places. Its definitely a story that will stay with you a long time after you've finished and started another book.

Black Prism Lightbringer 1

As someone who's not an avid reader of fantasy/sci-fi, i found this one of the most unique & ambitious books I've ever read! Weeks has an amazing and bottomless imagination... he creates not only a new ability, but a new country, political system and a new religion. Im definitely impressed by the sheer size of the detail. However, as fantasy goes, i really found it not genre specific. It has everything for any reader....action, mystery, romance ,drama, historic play, and adventure! Its one of those stories that will stay will you long after your done and reading another book.

This is a fantastic way to read Walt Whitman's poetry! This book is filled with art and color... his words the way you were always meant to read them but didn't know how until now! A great way to introduce a new generation to classic poetry as well! Give the gift of words this Holiday for the poetry lover on your list!

God Is Dead
by
Ron Jr Currie
Heather Zeboor
, October 20, 2014
What would happen to the world around us and life as we know it, if the God died? Its both funny and thought provoking and I greatly enjoyed it. I shared it with friends and family, who also enjoyed this short little gem. It depicts a few different stories about everyday people and what has been happening in their lives as a result of "God" dying. I appreciated that no matter what or who you believe in, you can still read and enjoy this book. It is NOT an anti-religion book at all; just a..."I wonder what would happen if"..... kind of a book. Ron J. Currie has created a unique book about one of the many esoteric questions we ask ourselves, the kind of questions with no answers. Give it a try, im sure you'll enjoy it as well!
