Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

D&D 3.5 Dungeon Masters Guide

It's not old school, but it is comfortable and familiar. The 3.5 rule set is really easy to work with and the Dungeon Master's Guide (3.5) is the best way to start DMing Dungeons and Dragons. For those of you who are new to the game, I would recommend starting off with the Player's Handbook and the Monster Manual, or even a "red box" (starter kit). Once you have the hang of it, unleash your own epic or use a pre-made adventure. As for this book? Yes it is great. It provides both specific details and rules as well as conceptual advice on how to keep the tale progressing. If you like leading a collaborative social event and can tell a good tale, this book is for you.

D&D 4th Ed Tomb of Horrors

I played this adventure a while back and had to get my own copy. This is a fun book. If you are the type who likes to play with a small group and don't want to get stuck with DM duties, or want to limit the time your DM duties take, this adventure is one of the many that are available to fill several nights of table-top fun. The art work and details really add to the book, which also has a foldout map in the back. We were very pleased with the adventure and would recommend it to medium skilled tabletop adventurers like ourselves.
