Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Missing Pieces

This book sent spine-tingling chills down my back the entire time I was reading. Heather Gudenkauf has a way of weaving stories for different characters without confusing the reader. It took me a little while to read but I'm so glad I did because it was simply Heather at her finest! Once I started the prologue, I knew I had to read to the end to see what happened to Jack's mother when he was a teenager. Thanks to Heather Gudenkauf for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review!

The Girls of Mischief Bay

My first book by Susan Mallery and I LOVED every single second of this book from the first paragraph to the last! It is so well-written, you're going to think you're a character in the story! I would highly recommend it because it's a light but with some drama, laughter, tears, etc, kind of read. I would even recommend it to a man whom enjoys reading. I can now say Susan Mallery is a favorite of mine and I will be reading more of her work.

Lost Ocean: An Underwater Adventure and Coloring Book
by

I've always been drawn to coloring books ever since I was a little girl. I'm 24, going to be 25 in a few months and I've realized I will never ever stop coloring. I found the Lost Ocean coloring book at Walmart a few weeks back and once I opened it up, I was in love. I just wish it was never-ending. Coloring books for adults is so calming for one's soul because it de-stresses you from the bad things that may have happened to you that day. It makes me feel like a little girl again, coloring while inside the house because it was raining or snowing outside, munching on a bowl of popcorn or having a cup of hot cocoa. I think the world would be a lot happier if everyone picked up a coloring book, took out some gel pens, crayons, colored markers or colored pencils, etc., and just did that for a few hours, the world would seem a little less bleak if only for a few hours.

My Very Best Friend
by
Cathy Lamb

I've started one of Cathy Lamb's books before and from what I read, I liked her writing style because it didn't seem far-fetched; it seemed like the character was someone I knew in real life. Her characters are vividly well-written to the point where you feel like you can meet and talk to them in real life. My Very Best Friend seems like a book I'd really enjoy because I have two best friends who mean the world to me and I don't know where I'd be if it weren't for them. I also like reading books set in other countries because it gives me a feel as if I'm right there in the story especially if it's set in Ireland, Italy, England, Scotland, France, etc. It gives me a chance to picture the beautiful scenery and almost taste the food the characters are eating.

Silent Sister
by
Diane Chamberlain

Wow. I've been in love with Diane Chamberlain's work for nearly ten years! The Silent Sister was one of my all time favorites because she has this way of interweaving the stories of each character without confusing the reader. Diane's characters are so vividly detailed that you can picture what they look like in your mind. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes a mystery where you're gripped from the first sentence to the very last sentence.
