Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

Binary Star
by
Sarah Gerard

In Binary Star, Gerard captures the essence of what it is like to struggle with an eating disorder on a regular basis. Stars and the cosmos as well as amphetamines and an eating disorder are all intertwined in this stark, honest, and poignant memoir.

House We Grew Up In
by
Lisa Jewell

I began reading this book in the afternoon of a rainy day and didn't put it down until I had read it cover-to-cover. The Bird family---a rather unconventional family as an entire, will have you thinking about the family members after you have shut the book and walked away from it, even several hours later. Everyone has someone in their family who is secretly in the Bird family as well. I would be hard-pressed not to say that I loved this book---and I am sure any of the readers will agree---they too, might have some "Bird blood" in them.

Leuchtturm1917 Medium Dots Blue Journal DISCONTINUED
by
Alex
, November 14, 2015
The Leuchtturm 1917 notebook comes in pocket sized, medium sized, large, and large master. It has 80 proof paper, which allows for the pen to flow freely on the page, causing little to no feathering, bleeding, nor shadowing. Most fountain pens can be used on the Leuchtturm paper and any regular pens too. What makes the Leuchtturm special and stand out from other journals, is that it can be used for a regular journal, or a bullet journal. The pages are numbered and there is an index. Like the Moleskine, the Leuchtturm comes with a pocket in the back and archive stickers. The Leuchtturm 1917 comes in many colors, fluorescents, pastels, and earth colors, as well as the standard black and white. I highly recommend this notebook to anyone who wants to keep a proper archived journal, or start a bullet journal.
