The Exit Man

Simply Superb. This was such an easy and enjoyable book to read. There’s a reason why so many readers have given Greg Levin 5 stars for his book, and that’s because it really is that good. It’s also nice to read something with a different and unique subject like assisted euthanasia. You can’t help but like Eli Edelmann, he’s more than a little bit floored, but that’s what we love about him. He definitely doesn’t have his life in order, but his heart is in the right place. There are laugh out loud moments, and times where I found myself reflecting. I really look forward to more from this Author in the future. Do yourself a favour and read this book, you won’t be disappointed.

Serious Crimes

Laurence Gough

Simply Fantastic. Another book by Laurence Gough that I just didn’t want to put down, it really is that good. Even though this is book four in the series, you could still read it as a stand-alone and still very much enjoy it. If you were in charge of a Police Department, then you would want Detectives like Jack Willows and Claire Parker working for you. They are relentless and methodical in their pursuit of the killers. I like their banter, and the way they interact together. It’s one of the many reasons why I’ve enjoyed each book in this series. You would almost think the killer in this story has a sense of humour, posing the victim Kenny Lee in the lotus position while he is sitting on top of the ice. However he just didn’t take into account when he tossed him into the water that it would be frozen. Then you have a couple of guys that aren’t so smart in Billy and Garret, who decide they would like to up the ante in their illegal pursuit for money. This book is such an easy and enjoyable read. Definitely worth the 5 star rating.

Liberated: A Novel of Germany, 1945

In one word – “Brilliant”. I was only part the way through my first Steve Anderson book (Lost Kin), when I knew I would need to read everything he has written. I enjoyed it that much, and this book is no exception. There are so many things that make this story interesting. For me characters are what really makes or breaks a good book. Each character in Liberated is quite unique, and I really enjoyed the detail the Author has put into each one of them. The main character is Harry Kasper, an American Captain posted to a Bavarian town called Heimgau. You can’t help but like him. It would be tough for Harry to investigate the corruption his superiors are conducting. This book gives a good insight of what it would have been like in Germany post WWII. This is another story from a talented Author that was hard to put down, and is definitely worth a read.

Under False Flags

Simply Amazing. This would be one of the best War Thrillers I’ve ever read. What makes this book unique is that it is being told from both sides, firstly an American Soldiers point of view, and then a German Seaman’s point of view. The Author has done an amazing job of explaining the brutality of war. It’s not just the physical injuries sustained in the conflicts, but the mental breakdown of some of the soldiers & Seaman. The American GI Wendell Lett goes through hell, and eventually all of his initial squad are killed. I also wouldn’t like to be on a boat that doesn’t have any radar, like the German Seaman Holger Frings is on. Especially when the Allied forces have them, and are easily picking the Germans off one by one. The bombing in the tall pine forest is memorable, and something I won’t easily forget, brilliant. This is not a story that I just skimmed across the top of the words, I was completely pulled in, and easily lost track of time. That is exactly what I want from a book. Do yourself a favour and read this story, you won’t be disappointed.

Fantastic Book. This is an enjoyable historical thriller. Even though this is book 3 in the series, you could read it as a stand alone book and still enjoy it. I haven’t read a lot from post WW 2, and what happened after the war, so I found this very interesting. Steve Anderson has done a great job of incorporating an interesting and captivating story with history of that era. It’s interesting that there were a lot of displaced people after the WW2 and that same thing is happening around the world today. Captain Harry Kasper is a great character, along with his girlfriend Sibine. I will definitely read more from this Author.
