Shelterwood

5 stars, Searching for Freedom in Oklahoma SHELTERWOOD by Lisa Wingate This is a dual timelines book about three little girls who are desperately trying to escape from a dangerous man and find love and freedom in Oklahoma in 1909 and some mysterious children's skeletons found in a cave in 1990. There is a lot of mystery in this book, it leaves you wondering if the children's skeletons belong to the three little girls. That part made it harder for me to read and really get into the story. I really liked the Ollie and Valerie characters. Quotable Quote: "I'm female, which in general does you no favors in the NPS system. If you're harassed, hazed, ogled, propositioned, whatever, you're expected to tough it out, deal with it yourself, grow a thicker skin, and move on." A lot of women have had to deal with things like this in our history. Highly recommend to any mystery lover. 5 stars, Horrors COLD CREMATORIUM Reporting from the Land of Auschwitz by Jozsef Debreczeni Jozsef Debreczeni barely survived the Land of Auschwitz. He was able to tell the world of the horrors he and the other prisoners experienced there. We should all always remember and not allow it to happen again. Book quotes: ..."where the people of this tightly locked train of hell were transformed into animals." "The Nazis are not only murderers. They are also cowards." These quotes cause a lump in my throat, to know that someone did horrifying things to other humans. Foxfire Bride
by
Maggie Osborne
Sally Mander
, May 31, 2022
5 Stars, Well written Western FOXFIRE BRIDE by Maggie Osborne A scout by the name of Fox, figures out herself, that there are definitely times that you experience bad things that turn out to be great things in the end. A person definitely needs to thank God for unanswered prayers. Fox has only loved two people in her whole life, her mother who died when Fox was relatively young; and Peaches Hernandez, the black man who took a small, unloved, overworked child and adopted her as his own. He taught her everything she knew, anything worth knowing, or arranged for it to be taught to her. This is one of my favorite books of all time. Several of Maggie Osborne's books affect me this way. She is a talented writer, who speaks to the little "tomboy" that is hidden inside of me. I have over-read several of her books and had to purchase new copies, to love them again. Highly recommend this author. #maggieosborne #foxfirebride #strongfemaleprotagonist #unansweredprayers #kidnapping #love #inspirational

Wanda E. Brunstetter's Amish Friends 4 Seasons Cookbook: 290 Fresh Recipes for Eating with the Seasons

5 stars, Wanda guides you through the seasons by cooking Wanda E. Brunstetter's Amish Friends 4 Seasons Cookbook: 290 Fresh Recipes for Eating with the Seasons (Spiral-bound) by Wanda E. Brunstetter This is a delightful cookbook with bright, vibrant colors and easy-to-follow Amish recipes. There are snippets of Amish wisdom peppered throughout the book, which I always find interesting. My favorite recipes are GINGER ALE, FALSE MINCE PIE, and YAK PLAY DOUGH. There is an index, and also an index by key ingredients, which is helpful if you are wanting to use something specific. My husband hasn't minded at all, tasting his way through this cookbook. Highly recommended. It is spiral bound, so it conveniently lays flat, while you are using it. Dark Angel
by
Brian Andrews, Jeffrey Wilson
Sally Mander
, April 25, 2022
There's a lot of violence in this series, I have to read these books in smaller increments, rather than read one all at once, as I do with many other novels. The way it is written, you can literally feel the waves of animosity rolling off of the DARK ONES and the DARK ANGEL. This is a stand-alone book, but you'll understand the series better if you read them in order. This book has a conclusion, but you are left with the impression, that there is more to come. I like that the books are written about servicemen and women who can express themselves, without any vulgarity or profanity. So many books these days are full of that language. I received a complimentary copy of #darkangel from #tyndale I was under no obligation to post a review. #christiansuspense #christianthriller #mostanticipatedbooks2022 #inspyfiction

A Rose for the Resistance: Volume 5
by
Angela K. Couch
Sally Mander
, March 23, 2022
5 stars, A unique perspective on WWII A ROSE FOR THE RESISTANCE (Heroines of WWII #5) by Angela K. Couch #arosefortheresistance is a unique perspective on #wwii it's mostly set in France, around Rosalie, her younger brother Marcel, and a German soldier. Marcel is determined to get into the fight against the hostile takeover by the Germans. Rosalie is constantly trying to solve his problems to keep him at home, so he'll be safe. When they are mysteriously saved by a German soldier, they don't know what to think. The man, Franz is supposed to be the enemy, he is wearing the uniform of the enemy, and he hangs out with the enemy, yet all indications point to the fact that he may be an ally. As I read this novel, I was reminded that there are good people and bad people in all walks of life. This is not a completely fictional story, there are details pulled from history, yet it is believable that situations like this could have occurred. The element that the author is determined to share is that we remember the horrors of the German takeover and learn from that and don't let it occur again. Much appreciation to #barbourpublishing #barbourbooks for the complimentary copy I was under no obligation to post a review. #resistance #freedomfighters #underground #dictator #spies #heroinesofwwiiseries #partofaseries #standalone #inspyfiction #inspirationalfiction

5 stars, An absolutely, completely enjoyable time-slip novel LOVE'S FORTRESS (DOORS TO THE PAST, #7) by Jennifer Uhlarik What if for your whole lifetime, one-half of your life has been based upon a lie? Dani Sango's estranged father has passed away and out of the blue, he has left his home in St. Augustine, Florida, and all of his worldly possessions to her. I enjoyed the blending of contemporary and historical fiction and historical non-fiction in the novel. We have always planned to visit St. Augustine, Florida, and I have some great ideas of things to look at, while we visit. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a well-told story. Each of the Doors to the Past novels is a stand-alone, which is quite nice. In Search of a Prince

5 stars, Breathless and Amazing IN SEARCH OF A PRINCE by Toni Shiloh Brielle Adebayo, a middle school teacher from New York finds out from her mother, that she, Bri, is a princess of the kingdom of Oloro Ile, Africa. The story is amazing, it seems so real, yet the author has used her imagination to construct a perfect kingdom that has a law on its books, that princesses must marry before they are allowed to rule. Then the search is on for the quest of the perfect prince. Highly recommend #insearchofaprince by #tonishiloh I have a special spot already picked out in my favorite bookcase, for this book to sit until I'm ready to read it again, which will be no time at all. I read my favorite books over and over again. There is danger, beautiful clothing, excitement, and an inspirational theme, all things that I adore to read in a book. Thankfully, there's no raunchy wordage, nor raunchy situations involved. A one hundred percent perfect novel. Saving Mrs. Roosevelt: WWII Heroines
by

, November 20, 2021
5 stars, Courageous Women SAVING MRS. ROOSEVELT by Candice Sue Patterson Growing up in Maine, as the youngest child and the only girl, Shirley Davenport always knew that she didn't want to grow up, get married, scrub floors, and do dishes, as her mother did. She wanted her life to be more meaningful and to be able to accomplish great things before she settled down with a house, husband, and a family. Shirley's best friend Joan led her into joining up with the SPARs, the US Coastguard's Women's Reserve. The coastguard's thinking at the time was to have able-bodied women join up to free up men to go to join the war overseas. Shirley ends up making difficult decisions in her professional and personal life, that have repercussions that reverberate among her community and will stigmatize her for long after the war is over. The Daily Bible Project: A Three-Year Record of Your Reading Plan Journey
by
Ink &. Willow
Sally Mander
, October 17, 2021
5 stars, Awesome reading THE DAILY BIBLE PROJECT by Ink & Willow I adore this book, I can't decide if it's a journal, a diary, or a tool to help a person read the Holy Bible in one year. Regardless, it's a beautiful book, that is sectioned out with three individual sections on every page, with recommended Bible passages to read, a part from the Old Testament, and part from the New Testament every day to accomplish the goal of reading the entire Bible in one year. The sections are lined, but it is not dated with a year, so you can start it whenever you want be it January 1st or March 22. You would fill in the years as you go along. There is plenty of space along the sides so you can doodle or add additional notes as you need or want to. Highly recommend it to anyone who wishes to further their knowledge of the Holy Bible, anyone who journals, or likes to write in a diary. It's a perfect resource, gift, and treasure. I personally keep a five-year journal, writing a few paragraphs every single day, so it's quite feasible for me to switch over to this journal for my walk in The Word. 5 stars, Taste: Like Henmeat PEMBRICK'S CREATUREPEDIA (THE WINGFEATHER SAGA) by Andrew Peterson I haven't yet read any other books written by this author. I know that we will read the Wingfeather Saga series. I can't decide what I like best about this book, the non-sensical rhyming throughout the Creaturepedia, or the illustrations that describe each beastie creature perfectly. My most favored part is the taste of each creature, many taste like henmeat. Translated into English, "tastes like chicken." Perfect! Pembrick's Creaturepedia would be fun for the reader and the listener to read aloud. Highly recommend. A Wingfeather Saga dictionary would also be good. Jesus Followers Real Life Lessons for Igniting Faith in the Next Generation

, September 26, 2021
5 stars, Everyday teachings JESUS FOLLOWERS by Ann Graham Lotz and Rachel-Ruth Lotz Wright The author and her daughter are the daughter and granddaughter of the famous Reverend Billy Graham. They give practical tips for how to reach out to your friends, family, and even complete strangers to share God's message that will save their lives. One chapter is called CHOCOLATE MILK and POPCORN, which sounds kind of cute and a little funny, but the lesson these two women are teaching is that there doesn't have to be a special time to talk about important, spiritual things, it can be anytime, anywhere. Highly recommend. This book will give you guidance in your personal walk with the Lord and helpful tools that can enable you to engage in an easygoing, honest way with everyone around you. 5 stars, Epic story of good vs evil DARK INTERCEPT by Brian Andrews and Jeffrey Wilson Published by: Tyndale House Publishing This is the kick-off novel for The Shepherds Series. The story is about a Navy Seal named Jedidiah Johnson who is rotating out of the Navy. He has an uncanny sense of self-preservation that usually worked pretty well to protect him and his Seal Team. Jed is approached by his ex-best friend to help find the friend's teenaged daughter, who has been kidnapped. Due to his shared history with his ex-friend, he doesn't want to take the job but knows that he has to for the girl's sake. Highly recommend it, this is an epic story of good vs evil, complete with high-action scenes without the non-stop offensive expletives that are so common in today's writing styles. The Next Fithian: An Ordinary Teen on a Strange, New World

5 stars, Refreshing sci-fi adventure THE NEXT FITHIAN: AN ORDINARY TEEN ON A STRANGE, NEW WORLD (NEXT FITHIAN #1) By Rick Barry Published by: Fithian Publications As a constant reader, I've found that I adore The Next Fithian because it combines some of the aspects that I look forwards to in a novel and packages the story up in a pretty green book. Science Fiction, Fantasy, a Christian author, friendships, a superhero that anyone can relate to, which all combine to make an attractive novel, not only the cover but inside, as well. It is refreshing not to have the vulgarities that are so often in adventure books, these days. Highly recommend. Though the book is set in a futuristic, fantasy world, it can help to solidify the morals and beliefs of the people in your life. As a middle-aged grandmother, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I'd like to purchase the paper-back copy for my grandchildren. I know they'd love the adventure, as well. Wanda E. Brunstetter's Amish Friends Baking Cookbook: Nearly 200 Delightful Baked Goods Recipes from Amish Kitchens

, September 20, 2021
5 stars, My new favorite recipe book. WANDA E. BRUNSTETTER'S AMISH FRIENDS BAKING COOKBOOK By Wanda E. Brunstetter Published by Barbour Publishing. This lovely spiral-bound cookbook combines some of my most favorite things like books by Wanda Brunstetter because you know she only writes wholesome, loveable, interesting books; Amish recipes because they are the best kinds of recipes tasty, easy enough for anyone to master; Baking, my favorite kitchen activity. I have already made the AMISH FRIENDSHIP BREAD. My family enjoys this bread. We make the recipe a little easier for us and a lot more fun for any children helping out. We put the initial starter into a 1-gallon zipper bag. Much less messy for mixing and stirring in the new ingredients. Everyone likes smushing the bag to corporate the ingredients together. If you make this recipe much, you'll find out if your friends really like the bread or if they'd like to pass. I don't bother my friends with starter bags, which I put into sandwich-sized zipper bags, I simply put them in a tub into the freezer. Saving them for our family. I sometimes share a loaf of Amish Friendship Bread, but don't offer unless they request the starter. Fan Fiction: A Mem-Noir: Inspired by True Events
by
Brent Spiner

, September 04, 2021
5 stars, Real, or not? FAN FICTION by Brent Spiner St. Martin's Press Brent Spiner has a problem, several fans are in love with him or his character Data from Star Trek; The Next Generation. This is a fictional, humorous version of what may or may not have happened with his obsessed fans. It reads as believable, you can imagine things really happening just as he portrays them. There is a nice tie-in to TNG, for all of the Trekkie fans out there. Several of his co-stars from the show have made it into the book, as well. It would have made itself more endearing if the book had been non-fiction, instead of fiction, at least, to me. I don't consider myself a Trekkie, that being said, we do own the entire series of Star Trek: TNG, on DVD. Hubby & I watch an episode, almost every day, (we've done this for years) since we like the series so much. Of course, since the author is Data on the cast of TNG, I wanted to see what his book was about. Much appreciation to @StMartinsPress #StMartinsPress @BrentSpiner @BrentJSpiner #BrentSpiner for the complimentary copy of #FanFiction I was under no obligation to post a review.

Rose is offered a nanny position with a prominent American businessman, but she'll have to move to England, where his business is located.
