The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (A Hunger Games Novel)

If you are a Hunger Games fanatic, this prequel about President Snow in his young adulthood will not disappoint. Thoroughly engaging, the story follows Snow in post-rebellion Panem as he navigates being a student Mentor in the 10th year of the Games and beyond. The book chugs along as we watch him evolve from a semi-idealistic, determined child of privilege into a hardened, manipulative, sinister young man. Lots of twists and suspense as well as exciting, sometimes brutal, action; Collins finds many clever tie-ins that give greater depth and explanation of Panem’s history and how the Hunger Games were developed and implemented. Great addition to the HG collection!

One of the most beautiful, haunting and devastating novels I have read in years. This book takes the stories of a daughter, her mother, and a plantation of characters, and weaves them into a glorious tapestry of love, magic, trauma and family. I couldn’t put it down and was left with eerie, lingering feelings of desperation, despair, longing and tragedy. An amazing book.
