Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

I haven't seen this cookbook, but I very much enjoyed his autobiography so I look forward to getting it and cooking some of his recipes.

Gaia's Garden: A Guide to Home-Scale Permaculture
by
Toby Hemenway
Virginia R Bruce
, June 29, 2012
Got this from the library, now I'm buying it because I know that I will refer to it often! Philosophy of permaculture along with concrete (permeable of course) advice on how to practice it on your space. Everything from big lots to container gardens for apt. dwellers, and written from a fun, non-preachy point of view.

In The Green Kitchen Techniques To Learn By Heart
by

Can't wait to get my hands on this one! The most sustainable way to cook is to learn techniques and then apply them to what you have on hand, not to go out and buy a bunch of ingredients you'll never use again to follow a recipe.

The End of Overeating: Taking Control of the Insatiable American Appetite
by
David Kessler

, January 27, 2010
I think this book is going to change my eating habits as much as "The Omnivore's Dilemma" did. I got it from the library but I'm going to buy it so I can lend it to my friends and family. It exposes the corporate-led manipulation of our diet to sell us more food. It's well written and researched, with personal touches that take it beyond preachy or scientific.
