Boy Kings of Texas A Memoir
by
Domingo Martinez

I learned about this book after hearing the author on "This American Life." Mr. Martinez tells compelling stories of his life growing up in Brownsville, TX, to his transition to adulthood and life in Seattle, WA. He's a compelling storyteller, and the chapters serve well as stand-alone stories; some are sad, some are hilarious, and most are both. "The Boy Kings of Texas" is a great read and should give most readers something to connect with--it certainly did for me. I'm looking forward to more writing from Mr. Martinez.

I'm usually more of a math/science guy, but Vowell's books are always really fun to read, and I always learn history at the same time. She makes me think.
