Search For Omm Sety A Story Of Eternal
by
Jonathan Cott
effiemihopoulos
, February 28, 2007
Very intriguing and convincing book about a girl's reincarnation from ancient Egypt to 20th century England, and her quest to return to Egypt (& the town of Abydos in particular). Throughout it all she has ghostly visits from Seti the First, who was her lover when she was one of the young priestesses at his temple in Abydos.

In the Heart of the Sea The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex
by
Nathaniel Philbrick

, February 15, 2007
This is an intriguing tale, very thorougly researched. Ironic in that the whaling sailors wouldn't go to closeby islands fearing cannibal natives, but wound up becoming cannibals themselves to survive. Also a very sad tale of how they devastated Charles island of its wildlife and vegetation--because of a silly prank.

Soldiers in Revolt: GI Resistance During the Vietnam War
by
David Cortright
effiemihopoulos
, February 05, 2007
This is an important book to read at this time in history. It documents well and thoroughly the dissent among the GI's during the Vietnam War Era. Many events we haven't heard of. Many we have forgotten and are reminded about when we read this book. It reminds us of some of the dissenters in the Iraq war. The introduction by the ever-eloquent and important voice of Howard Zinn puts things in perspective.

Blue Light

Walter Mosley

This is a very intriguing although very unusual book. Very different from his Rawlings mystery series, but written in the same inimitable style. Strange as the book may be, it does once more prove what an all-around important writer Mosley is--and not just in the mystery genre.

Greg Palast always has something important to reveal about our "democracy" we live in--and manages to make it pallative in an entertainingly comedic way. But he also makes you want to go into high gear--and do something about what's wrong with it.

Masterful, poetic writing in sound-bite stories. My favorite is the first one, which comes as close to perfect prose writing as it can get.
