This is my favorite of Michelle Tea's books. It has her signature plainspoken, confessional punk prose, but here she employs her style to illuminate a working class childhood rather than some uber-cool grrl scene (not that there's anything wrong with uber-cool grrl scenes). One of the most realistic accounts of kid-thinking that I've read.

An academic and sometimes dry (but no more so than other history texts) account of a fascinating country.
