Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Life of Pi

If you haven't read through the synopses of this book, take my advice and CLOSE YOUR EYES AND CLICK ADD TO CART. Do not read about this book, just read the book - the less you know the better. Believe me, you'll thank me later. The whole tale left me breathless and exhilirated, as if I had survived Pi's ordeal in the lifeboat myself. Fantastic, brilliant stuff.

Time Travelers Wife

This is one of those books you get so lost in that when you look up, you have to shake your head and remind yourself that you aren't a time traveler. Non sci-fi fans might be squeamish about the central concept, but the characters are solid and stable, if not in time then in narrative. Henry dipping in and out of chronology doesn't feel like a cheap ploy; instead, it gives the novel an intricately woven texture, strengthening and tightening the love story that is its premise. The best kind of wistful, rainy day read.

Agile Rabbit Book of Historical & Curious Maps

An Agile Rabbit book (or half a dozen of them) should be a must for every graphic designers, artists and simply curious. Although this particular one is not my all-time favorite, it's a great buy because of the old-timey maps and illustrations, as well as the CD with royalty free images included. I would buy any of their publications sight unseen.
