Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

A very funny and imaginative book. I enjoy reading it as much as my child enjoys listening to it.

If You Give A Pig A Party

This is the first of the If You Give A...series of books I've read. It is a huge hit with my 22 mth old son and we read it over and over again. I love the brightly colored illustrations and 2 particular pages in which the characters play hide and seek, and you get the chance to search for them as well. Will probably need to get another copy some day as this book has become well read at our house.

Dollhouse Murders

Betty Ren Wright

I read all of Betty Ren Wright's books when I was younger and this by far my favorite. Centering on mysterious activity in a dollhouse in the attic, a young girl is puzzled as to why the dolls always appear to be in different places from where she had placed them the day before. As she begins to try and find out why this is happening, the dolls actions become even more urgent. A great book for mystery lovers with a spooky paranormal twist.

Camping Spree With Mr Magee

My son and I loved this book's vibrant illustrations and catchy rhyming prose of a man and his dog on a camping trip. Expecting to take a relaxing weekend away from city life, Mr. Magee finds things don't go quite as planned. Lucky for us readers, we get to enjoy it along with him as well.

I didn't find the book to be funny at all. I found it depressing and you just felt bad for the main character as she struggles with her decision about the child she is carrying and the expectations of the family who will be adpoting her child. I'd skip this one altogether.
