Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Season For The Dead
by
Hewson, David
Lisa Parker
, October 21, 2008
If you found the DaVinci Code lacking in authenticity, or if you loved the DaVinci Code but are tired of waiting for Dan Brown's sequel, this is the book you're looking for. The first in David Hewson's Nic Costa series will not disappoint. Mr. Hewson's command of Roman history, art and contemporary Italy are mixed into an awesome thriller. Lucky for you, this one is just the first, and there are 6 more after.

Little Bitty Lies
by
Mary Kay Andrews
Lisa Parker
, July 16, 2008
Anything by Mary Kay Andrews (aka Kathy Hogan Trocheck) is the perfect antidote for the blues, but Little Bitty Lies is laugh out loud hilarious! This is the perfect beach read. Having a deadbeat husband declared dead seems like the simple solution to a huge problem. Unfortunately, the problem with lies is that you usually have to tell another one, and another....which is where the fun is. You'll be in stitches as Mary Bliss tries to save her house and her sanity. (you'll also be keeping your fingers crossed that she succeeds!) As with the Callahan Garrity mysteries she wrote under her real name, Andrews is a master at keeping you guessing and keeping you in stitches. This is one of my absolute favorites!
