Harper C.: Five Book Friday: Uncanny Graphic Novels (0 comment)
We are in the thick of winter here in the Pacific Northwest, which means it's dark, damp, and chilly. Rather than escaping to stories with warmer, brighter climates, I personally want nothing more than to dive deep into gothic and uncanny fiction as the wind rattles my windows at night...

The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro
    Colette, March 04, 2007
I really enjoyed this book. The main characters view of the world was so skewed by what he felt was his duty, you had to rely on his interaction with others to see what was really going on.

Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory
    Colette, March 04, 2007
I could not put this book down and read it in two days. And it is a big book! The author does a wonderful job of drawing the reader into the story and you feel like you are right there in the middle of things along with the Boleyn sisters.

Zero The Biography of a Dangerous Idea by Charles Seife
    Colette, March 04, 2007
Fascinating read! It is a great way to learn about the history of mathematics along with bits about civilizationss along the way.

Queen Bee Moms & Kingpin Dads: Dealing with the Difficult Parents in Your Child's Life by Rosalind Wiseman and Elizabeth Rapoport
    Colette, November 10, 2006
What parent doesn't deal with all of this at some point? We all hope we don't have to (and hope we aren't one of the "bad" parents!!!) but it happens to the best of us. Read this and at least get a chuckle out of the fact that we never really leave junior high.

In The Night Kitchen by Maurice Sendak
    Colette, August 21, 2006
My children love this book! It is one that I read and reread several times a day. Fabulous for their imaginations.
