This book is an amazing collaboration between one of the best writers on Jazz that the 20th century produced, and one of the finest photographers of the Jazz era of the 50's and 60's. It is rare to find a monograph of this nature that combines both sensitive and high quality imagery together with poignant and intelligent writing that goes far beyond a simple background description of the images. This book is just as important for the textual story it contains as for it's rich photographic imagery. (I only wish I could afford a copy of my own...)
