Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. Dancing with Duality: Confessions of a Free Spirit
by
Stella Vance

Stella Vance courageously writes about her life in this candid and very relatable biography. After finishing this book, I felt as though Stella herself was a close friend of mine. She takes us through the past decades (and lives) with all the highs and lows, and although some were very difficult, she sees them all as learning experiences and is grateful for each. This book was written with heart-felt honesty & every reader will certainly find a connection with Stella, & possibly learn something about themselves along the way.

Haunted Heartland
by
Beth Scott

Since the Fall Season is upon us, I thought I would start early on my spooky reading. This year, I picked up a copy of "Haunted Heartland" by Beth Scott. This book is an anthology of real peoples accounts of paranormal activities in the Mid-west states of America. These spine-tingling tales run the gammet from haunted houses, unexplained disappearances, exorcisms, paranormal phenomena, and the just plain weird, among so much more. If you are looking for a good chill, and not from the autumn weather, I recommend this book filled with creepy true tales. But, I warn you, if you read this late at night, you'll be sleeping with one eye open..if you can sleep at all!
