Unbroken A World War II Story of Survival Resilience & Redemption
by
Laura Hillenbrand

Having recently read a European theater WWII fiction, when I picked this up, I expected to find the non-fiction dry. Not so. Laura Hillenbrand brought Louis Zamperini's world right into my living room. Her visual imagery and sensory descriptions made the stretch from sunny California, rough seas, POW camps and back to the States vivid. Following this incredible athlete's life from high school to post WWII, introduced me to an amazing group of heroes and survivors. Don't expect an easy light read. It's very dark at times and gritty. I came away with a greater appreciation and deep respect for our soldiers. Thank you for all that you have done, are doing and for the future.

River House A Memoir
by
Lawrence, Sarahlee

"River House: A Memoir" is a lively bright view of present day life in central Oregon, touched with a breath of air from other continents. The mixture is refreshing and thoughtful. Sarahlee shares a slice of experience with us, as she takes on building her new home with her father. I enjoyed the book.

Suzanne Collins' has written a sharp introspective trilogy, looking at human behavior. Chilling at times, heartwarming at others. Excellent read.
