This is a very easy read and as such was actually very captivating and finishable in a day or two without much effort. Hubbard approaches the vampire genre from a new direction and as you get wrapped up in her world you spend the majority of the time with a father and her daughter and how he relays his and her mother's history to the young girl as she comes of age and into her own world of the dark side. Good book, nice easy flowing prose...until the end. I wouldnt call it anticlimatic, but one thing I always look for in a good book is that feeling of loss at the end; the overwhelming desire to know more and the urge to continue feeding off the lives of others. Hubbard does not deliver in this regards. I finished the book and while I did not feel let down I did not feel the need to lok for anything else from her or a sense of desire to know any more about her characters. This can be seen from both sides though. Either Hubbard did a good job of wrapping things up, or she did not allow the reader to become enough of aparticipant in the lives of her characters...tough call. Either way, its a great book for a weekend or a rainy day, but it wont be one I return to later.

You Suck

Don't you hate it it when you find yourself in between books? It's a very stressful period for me. I tend to have 4-5 things going on at a time of various genres, but the fiction ones always kill me. Half of them end up with 2-15 ancillary/sequel/prequel attachments and the others always look like scary commitments I just don't have the time for...and then you pick up something like You Suck. The cover got me interested, kudos to the simplicity. I picked it up and finished Chapter one...hooked - line and sinker. I finished half the book in the first sitting and felt like I needed to go find the prequel immediately. Not even sure if they exist yet, but you just want to know more! It takes a lot of for any author to grab me that quickly and I will be reading more of Moore's books. Ok, all of that and I didnt tell you anything about the book... and I really dont want to. If Douglas Adam's and Ann Rice (and her kinkier alter ego) ever had a child he would be Moore's saner brother. Vampires, lust, hot red heads, goth chicks that want purple coffins, shaved cats... what's not to like? If his other books are even half as entertaining as this one has been they have to be worth investigating.

Han Solo meets Hitchhikers Guide! This is some funny stuff. It really is laugh out loud funny. I just came off a binge in the Star Wars universe so I couldn't help but see similarities and enjoyed every one of them! I have dabbled myself with writing and actually came across Simon's site, the author, due to a software application he made for writers I had seen good reviews in other locations. I certainly wasn't looking for something to read as I have a HUGE backlog of other books just waiting for me to have some spare time to pick up. However, I ended up with a copy of Hal and it was a joy to read. Its a quick read, not too intellectual, which too much sci-fi tries to do these days, and just the right mix of humor, excitement, and adventure. The interaction between characters is a roller coaster of good times for all. I read 3-4 books a month and rarely do I put one down and immediately start seeking out more of the same. I like to jump genres to keep my mind fresh, right now all I want is more of Hal and Clunk! If you enjoy a world of quirky characters and side splitting humor. Here is your new base of operations! You will not regret it!
